truk movement

Post by edelman2 »

HI,

I've had rls for 2 months only and am having trunk movements. I read that the movements start in the legs and slowly progress to the other
parts of the body over years. Is it normal to have the symptoms go to the trunk at the beginning of the rls. Also I'm in NYC, is there a support
group in the city or are there people in the NYC area that would not mind getting in touch with me, because the symptoms starting in the
trunk frighten me.

Inna, I went from having mild symptoms of RLS/WED in my legs for a number of years to severe symptoms that included both my arms and trunk in a period of about a month. There were several changes to my life and my health that all occurred at about the same time, so I do not know what triggered the increase in severity, but it happened. I have been able to keep things fairly well under control with medication since then, but presents yet another set of challenges.

As for a NY area support group, try contacting Michael Haltman in Woodbury at newyorkmetro@rlsgroups.org.

Thank you for replying Steve. Michael Haltman does not live in NYC anymore (no idea where he is). I felt very unsettled by the fact
that I got such severe symptoms right away. Hope that meds will work for me too.

Also I had no changes in meds, health or lifestyle, so the severity of the symptoms caught me off guard.

It is very unsettling when they start severely so quickly.

One thing a good doc should do is to make sure it's RLS alone and not RLS with another condition. When you see the sleep specialist, hopefully they will do that.
