A gentle non-judgmental approach is to bring a paper or brochure in to your appointment, with the most relevant bits highlighted, and tell your doctor you found this material while trying to learn more about the disease, and could he give you his opinion of it. You're acknowledging that s/he is better equipped to interpret it than you are, instead of thinking that he should know it already.
