Aspartame

Post by TeaLSea »

I read this in one of the posts, but can't find it now, so I created a new topic on it. Someone said that aspartame--the chemical in diet sodas (and other places, but that's where I was getting it) contributes to RLS. So I quit. Starting sleep well. No pain. Coincidence? I don't know. Yesterday I had a diet coke in the morning (so the caffeine wasn't a factor at night), and had THE MOST miserable night of leg pains. So....no temptation to try that junk again. I took 2grams of Tylenol. Way bad. Felt awful all day today.
Can't wait to see the specialist next week.

I too thought possiblly that "diet" pop and others may have an effect on this condition. I'm going to stay off it today to see if it helps. I have had RLS on and off for a long time, but it has gotten much worse over the past year. Any other Help?

Well it's nasty stuff from what I hear. So it would probably contribute to overall health to get off the stuff. I have also been getting worse RLS since I've gotten older. Although I did sleep through the night last night on only 1 gram of Tylenol. I don't see much harm in that stuff.... We'll see.

Aspartame

Not sure about Aspartame and RLS but it is really nasty stuff and has been linked to everything from anxiety to brain tumors... a search of the net will terrify most people into cutting it out of their diet. Thats easier said than done though... it is in so many things... a favourite of mine is chewing gum but I stopped chewing it because of the Aspartame. It is an artificial sweetner so prettymuch anything you buy that claims to be sugar free, probably has it in it... It is important to note that while in very small doses it is fairly safe to consume but when you add up all those small doses in so much of the food that we all eat.. it adds up to a pretty big dose!

Hello, Jill, etc.---

I am pretty sure I posted some information about aspartame last month, but I can't recall under what subject either. A couple of us were discussing it... Just got in from out of town, but I'll look later.

Penguin? Jan? Becat? Ann? anyone remember where that was? Perhaps with one of the depression discussions? Can't for the life of me remember.

Hi Sara, hope the vacation was good. I think that the other post was in Non-pharm section. Try this one and see if this is it.

Thanks, Ann. I'd forgotten that thread completely. Wasn't the one I was thinking of. It's going to be hard to find because I think that aspartame got piggy-backed onto some other subject. Thought it might have been Jumpy's update thread or maybe one of the nutrition threads. And it was relatively recently... I'm pretty sure of that.

Vacation was a busman's holiday, but still nice. Thanks for asking. Hope all's well with you, too.
