Magnesium and CoQ10
Recently I went to a specialist of RLS. I have RLS and severe PLMs. It's the PLM's that drive me crazy. The doctor prescribed magnesium 400 to 800 mg twice a day and CoQ10 100 mg three times a day. I also take methadone 5 mg tabs, 10 mg in 24 hours. I spread it out. I am not sure the magnesium and CoQ10 are helping, yet I am having some better nights. I am still having bad nights, but on the other nights my spasms are milder. My next appt. to see the specialist for the PLM's is not until May 23.
I want off of the methadone so badly. I have tried everything, probably 25 drugs. I have a list.
I am keeping track of my sleep, since I have time before May.
This disease robs people of their lives. My career is over, had to retire just after turning 60. I am terrified of the opioid situation in this country.
Those of you who know me here, know all of this. Since I have to wait until the end of May, it reminded me that time is so frustrating. I feel like I now waste time. The mornings, I am usually sleeping, afternoons I don't feel like doing much. Evenings, are the same. Then comes the night. I hate the nights, since I never know how it will go. Either by being miserable, up and down, spasms, or insomnia, or with some sleep, fractured, usually.

Tracking is a good idea, Deb. I hear you - I am terrified, too. And, I also find that if I take the methadone daily that it is too much - I am too tired, without any energy, Reducing it with the pramipexole - every other day at this time - is the only way I've found to have a bit more energy. I, too, would love to stop it.

There is nothing else for me to take to alternate the methadone. The mirapex no longer works. I am exhausted day too.

Re: Magnesium and CoQ10
Another thing that drives me crazy is insomnia. Last night I was awake from 3 am to around 8 am, just wide awake, no RLS, no spasms, etc. I had slept from 11 pm to 3 am. Finally went back to sleep this morning for awhile, then spasms woke me up. On the up side, I finished my current book.
Re: Magnesium and CoQ10
That's horrible, Deb. I like to read too and get a lot done at night.
Sometimes I need to walk too much so I listen to podcasts. I can almost always get to sleep if I go to bed at the right time but I wake up around one and a half to two hours later. That's when the games begin. Last night it was after only 40 minutes. I always feel as though I've been in a deep sleep at that first awakening.

This is so true. Especially the feeling that you're just putting in time to make it thru the day. I remember feeling like that. I hope things look up soon and I hope you don't have to wait til your new specialists start sorting things out before things look up.This disease robs people of their lives. I hear you. For me a lot of the time it is about 2 hours, but then you know how it is, they come sooner or gratefully later. Tonight, no spasms, but insomnia. Last night it was the spasms. All night, every 1 to 2 hours, with a little sleep in between.
It is frustrating that either the spasms keep me from sleeping or it's the insomnia.

I used to be so productive. Your words, putting in time, is exactly right. That's all I do.
I am not betting on the specialist. We all know there isn't really anything new out there, but I thought I would go through the motions.
Finished another book!! This one should be a movie. It was good.

Re: Magnesium and CoQ10
I'm cooking Sunday roast dinner for 8 of us for, eating at 4pm.
I had 4 hours fractured sleep on Friday night, read a book in bed last night for an hour and got up (have been up ever since). So my last sleep was the 4 hours on Friday.
What is particularly striking is that I'm on the ball, roast is in the oven, cheesecakes are made. I'm trying out oven roasted brussel sprouts today which in theory should be crispy crunchy nearly black outside and creamy soft inside... eh... I mean, who in their right mind tries out a new recipe for 8, when having had no proper sleep in two days. Ah well, if the roasted sprouts go belly up i.e. burn, I'll bulk up with some tinned veg. It's amazing what parsley, garlic and butter can do.
Part of my problem is that it's difficult to 'do nothing'. I'm a multi tasker - watch tv, read and knit at the same time.
deb - I am also an avid reader. And once I've started a book, if I find it's not really my style there's no way it will be set to the side. Once started I find it difficult to set it to the side even if unsatisfactory.

Yes, Betty, I am muti-tasker too. I never just watch TV. The dinner sounds wonderful. I cooked today too. I was in the mood to do something I usually don't cook. Simmering boneless pork chops, red onion, diced tomatoes. Wild rice, broccoli and a salad. It's all for me, hubby doesn't like anything that is good. Picky eater, plain food, one item at a time, nothing touches. Oh well.

Hi Deb, I hope the magnesium and CoQ10 are helping you...my naturopath put me on 100mg CoQ10 and over several weeks I realized my anxiety had gotten much worse and my sleep more troubled. I spoke to my neurologist and he told me that some people, especially those with anxiety disorders, are very sensitive to CoQ10 and the most we should have is 50mg, and possibly not every day. I stopped it completely and over the next few nights my sleep returned to its usual crumminess, and I calmed down to my usual anxious self. Darn, it’s such a great supplement. My naturopath now has me on Gluthathione and so far no problems.

Re: Magnesium and CoQ10
Wow. I was told to take CoQ as well, but I didn't notice that sort of effect even though I'm prone to anxiety. I may have been too messed up at the time to notice, or the dose was too low.I realized my anxiety had gotten much worse and my sleep more troubled.
