RLS and hormones

Here you can share your experiences with substances that are ingested, inhaled, or otherwise consumed for the purpose of relieving RLS, other than prescription medications. For example, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, diet, kratom, and marijuana (for now) should be discussed here. Tell others of successes, failures, side effects, and any known research on these substances. [Posts on these subjects created prior to 2009 are in the Physical Treatments forum.]

RLS and hormones

Post by peanut1 »

I'm wondering if hormones are playing a part with my WED/RLS. Last week, after averaging 3 hours a night of sleep, I took some DHEA and slept like a baby. After 2 nights, it stopped working. I then stopped some of the standard process supplements as I was told that could increase the estrogen level and I'm definately seeing a difference in the RLS this week--not drastic, but there. Natural path thinks I may be suffering from Adrenal collapse which in turn, affects the hormones and consequently the WED. BTW, natural path told me he was treating 2 DOCTORS with WED/RLS that don't know what to do with it.

yes, both pregnancy and pre-period (or for some people, during period) are times of increased RLS. Has to do with hormones I would think.

Well I'm right around that age (49) where hormones can affect stuff and I thought it was interesting that I got a solid 9 hours of sleep after taking the DHEA.

Is DHEA only available by prescription?

In the US, no - you can get it in health food stores.

No evidence it actually does anything, as with many supplements. But, usually few people study them because you can't make money on them.
