Kratom is working for me

Here you can share your experiences with substances that are ingested, inhaled, or otherwise consumed for the purpose of relieving RLS, other than prescription medications. For example, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, diet, kratom, and marijuana (for now) should be discussed here. Tell others of successes, failures, side effects, and any known research on these substances. [Posts on these subjects created prior to 2009 are in the Physical Treatments forum.]

Re liver problems:

About a year after I started using kratom, one of my liver enzymes went up. My primary care referred me to a gastroenterologist, who examined me, and ordered (I think--can't really remember) at CT. The CT was normal, so he told me he'd retest me in six months. So six months later the enzyme that had gone up was normal. He's retested me a couple of times since, and my liver enzymes are always normal now. I did tell him about the kratom, and he said he was very doubtful that kratom had caused the initial rise.

So, for me anyway, kratom does not seem to be causing liver problems.

I've been wanting to try Kratom, the site that I looked on says the Red vein Borneo is not ingestible, I assume that they all say that.

Yes, Kratom is not approved as a supplement in the United States and all are marked as not to be taken internally or not to be ingested.

There are lots of folks who use kratom here, but most also require another med to get satisfactory control of their symptoms. If you bought your kratom from one of the vendors recommended on this board you probably have the good stuff.

It definitely helps my pre-sleep RLS and helps me to stay asleep. But, it doesn't come close to resolving the RLS so that I can sleep.

One thought...any chance you have augmentation? I only ask because reducing/stopping pramipexole when augmented is likely not something that kratom could cover.

I've been taking Kratom for about 6 weeks, in lieu of 150 mg Lyrica and Seratame that I had been taking since my Mirapex withdrawal last December. The Lyrica/Seratame combination allowed for a decent night sleep with only about an average of one hour/night of RLS disruptions/lost sleep. But I was determined to try to get off medications altogether, which I did for about 3 weeks before realizing I will need something to help with my RLS. That's when I tried Kratom. The Kratom initially worked about as well as the Lyrica/Seratame combination. However, I've noticed significant daytime sleepiness lately. My quality of life has gone downhill as a result, and I have a touch of depression. I'm wondering about the quality of my sleep on Kratom. And the past couple of weeks, I've had more RLS sleep disruptions, sometimes over 2 hours/night. Kratom doesn't seem to be doing the trick anymore. I've increased the dose from 2x .5 tsp/night to 3x .5 tsp/night and haven't noticed much improvement. I plan on going back to the Lyrica/Seratame combination. Actually, I'll probably start on just Lyrica (w/o the Seratame) to see where I'm at. I've tried so many things lately, it's difficult to tell what has helped and what hasn't.

RLS has a significant sleep disruption regardless of whether legs are jumping or not. Studies are taking place right now to help determine the types of sleep disruption, however almost certainly there is a marked decrease in deep sleep. Very few medicines help if there is a deep sleep problem, however it is known that Lyrica and Gabapentin are two that do increase the amount of deep sleep. The amount of time one spends in deep sleep is crucial to feeling refreshed the next day. It is not known if Kratom increases deep sleep or not, however it probably does not increase deep sleep since so few medications do. One possibility that might help you is to use kratom with a somewhat lower dose of Lyrica than you were using before. That may help the daytime tiredness and reduce the dose of the Lyrica.

Medical marijuana also increases deep sleep at low doses, however higher doses interfere with deep sleep, so dosing adjustments are more difficult and the timing of the dosing is important if it is to help with deep sleep.

I just started taking Kratom this week I'm trying to stop Mirapex I've been on Mirapex to .75 to 1. for about 10 yrs I've been Augmenting for a while. Last night I tried not to take it, took several teaspoons of kratom, but it didn't work very well and this morning I had a bad sore throat anyone had that experience? I got it from Krakenkratom.com can I take Hydrocodone with kratom? I put it in capsules because of this bad sore throat.

I was on 0.75 to 1mg of pramipexole this time last year and was augmenting, so I know how you feel right now. :?

I strongly suspect that you will find that kratom is not strong enough to help you while you are trying to get off of the Mirapex. Maybe it will be sufficient once you have returned to your current "normal", but not now. There are two ways to get off, some experts recommend going cold turkey, but that is a form of hell that can last for weeks and that I am certain that do not fully appreciate. The other approach is the use of a stronger opiate than kratom. Methadone or one of the oxy's are frequently used for this purpose. Of course, that is something that you have to talk to you doctor about and many doctors who are not RLS specialists will be very hesitant to prescribe one of these meds.

So, getting off of that level of Mirapex is not something that you are going to be able to do by yourself. If your doctor will give you an opiate to cover the withdrawal - fantastic. If not, you are going to need a LOT of support. We can provide what we can via this discussion board and you will need a lot of support from your family, both emotional and to cover for things that you would normally do but will not be able to handle while SEVERELY sleep deprived (yes worse than right now)!

Good luck and please keep us posted.

I managed to get off of mirapex when I was augmenting at 0.375mg using primarily kratom. However I was on a much lower dose and my augmentation was not terribly severe. Even so , the process was pure torture and if at all possible you will be able to tolerate the process much better if you can get your doctor to prescribe an opiate. After a several week wash out, I was able to restart mirapex at a much lower dose and currently take only 0.125 milligrams daily in addition to about 1 gram of kratom along with medical marijuana and 50 milligrams of Gabapentin. Long story short, do what Steve said.

Thanks for the info I have Norco 5 but can't take that many of them because of too much tylenol. I want to ask my pain Dr if he will change it to Oxy I had it before should I take Kratom with Norco?
