Pregnant and on medication

I've just joined and found lots of comments/discussions regarding the need to come off medication prior to getting pregnant. However.....I am currently taking Requip 3mg p/day and have just found out I am pregnant (quite a surprise). Naturally I'm very concerned and would very much appreciate any assistance or experiences that people have had recently regarding this.

Hi Rosalyn, oh my, that sounds like a difficult situation. I can only imagine how concerned you must be.

I have little knowledge of this, but think that Dr Buchfurer would be the person to ask. He is a sleep specialist and provides free answers to questions about RLS. He is also on the RLS Foundation's Board.

If you go to www.rlshelp.org, and go to patient letters, you can review the letters he's written to other people. I often go there and search on something, like pregnancy, and read all the responses he's made about the subject. But, in addition to searching the current letters (they go back many years), you can also write to him. I'm guessing he'd have the best answer.

If you do go, please check back with us and let us know. I will add this to the RLS and Pregnancy "sticky" thread we have. And, if you haven't read it, it might be helpful for ways to manage the RLS during the pregnancy.

Thanks very much for your helpful response. I have posted a letter on the website you suggested and will feed it back in to this one.

I can't help thinking that surely I can't be the first one this has ever happened to!

Sorry this will not be of much help but I had the same situation happen to me. I was on Mirapex and had been for about 2 years when I found out I was pregnant. I was taken off the medication immediately and battled the RLS for the remainder of the pregnancy with hot showers and baths.....we all know how little help they are..
