Pending Opioid Withdrawal?

Post by leggo_my_legs »

Well I really dislike these pharmacy rules of not refilling until 2 days before I'm due. Doesn't allow for any time for MD missing refill request etc.

Pharmacy doesn't keep oxycodone in stock either. So I'm looking at going without for a few days. I'm hoping I haven't been on it long enough for withdrawal to be an issue. On it for 30 days.

This is part of the reason why I have gone exclusively to a mail order pharmacy. And I have slowly developed a stash by getting them just a few days early each time.

As for their 2 day rule, they assume that you are at home all the time. Their rule doesn't allow for things like vacations and business travel.

I am so glad that my GP is cooperative. He will work with me if i'm going on holiday, i.e. hand write the prescription.
The computer software may not print the script within a certain timescale.

We can't get them via mail order in CA I don't think. Good for you re the stash!

Apparently the mixup was the office person not responding to my email or something. Dr told me to call Monday. Perhaps she has already called it in to the pharmacy and I just haven't heard from them. I'll find out soon.

Meanwhile I am talking 1/4 of my usual dose but will still run out in 2 days at this rate.

Polar Bear, that is good of your GP to work with you in that way. I would have thought of bringing along but not bringing along rx...good idea. But of course here than you get flak for using different pharmacies etc.

My pharmacy always has to order - always screws me up. No mail order in IL or in CA to my knowledge.

Interesting that mail order is not available to everyone since it is essentially required by the health insurance provided by my former employer, who has a large number of employees in both IL and CA.

But I also admit to quite a bit of fear with my mail order access since CVS has recently bought their prescription management service and is in the process of buying the insurance company that manages my former employer's health insurance. (And for those not familiar with CVS, they are a giant pharmacy conglomerate that is on the leading edge of the opioid hysteria.)

Another thing that my Doctor has done for me, one month she will write a greater amount than I take, that way I have a stash for when the end of the month comes, I'm safe, but I can not take the extras at other times, even when I am tempted. She doesn't do it unless I have used up the extras.

I massaged my PA that I had so many pills left and that I was ready for my next prescription. This was on Monday. I have one pill to get me through the night and tomorrow until she might electronically send it to my pharmacy. Hopefully she is acting on this. Last refill, I had to re-message and remind her. We'll see what tomorrow brings. We are so careful not to seem needy (which we are) for fear they will think we are abusive due to the opioid hysteria. It is a shame.

Can't get controlled rxs in CA via mail order, but can get other meds via mail order. I can't stand CVS. I am required to use them by my ins company, or suffer financial penalties. I was going to the CVS in Target, and they were quite awful. Thankfully I found a better one, and it has a drive thru.

By the way, my rationing worked and I didn't have any withdrawals, and I got the meds "just in time" as the pharmacy requires. The pharmacy robocall didn't call me and tell me it was ready; apparently it was sitting on the shelf for a day, which ticked me off.

leggo - that is sloppy customer service from the pharmacy.
I guess they reckon that we need our medication and they don't have to bother letting us know when it is available..... that we will ourselves be checking.

I could not agree more. I have been living in what seems live ground zero of opioid paranoia South Florida and while I feel very fortunate to have found a sleep specialist who will treat with oxycodone (as I had been on for six years in CA) filling the scripts it’s as if they presume you’re a junkie or drug dealer. I even had one probably 27 ish pharmacy tech lecture me that she’s never heard of opioids for RLS And wasn’t going to fill it. And I had to convince her otherwise. And yes I was desperate to have it filled because I know what it’s like to be jumping out of my skin at midnight, not because I was looking to down half the bottle and get high. Good grief. It’s a humiliation on top of having to live with RLS that is so ridiculous. Human beings internalize being culturally shamed and it can really mess with your mind. Luckily for me I’m able to always keep in mind I’m in the right and they are operating from ignorance so I don’t let it effect me too much. We have a culture of people and politicians that blame an inert substance - that when used correctly for its actual purpose is a life changing miracle for people - for the actions of people that abuse it. What’s so crazy is that as usual when politicians decide to ‘get tough’ and ‘do something ‘ they create more harm as in Florida making it so hard to prescribe them the actual addicts turned to heroin on the street resulting in a terrible overdose situation. I’m lucky in that the pharmacy team changed at the CVS I use and they are now actually almost pleasant to me and treat me like a customer and a human being instead of a lowlife. The bad news is I’ve just moved which I’m going to do a separate post on.

In case any of you haven't seen it, there is the new study that hopefully will help normalize opioid use for RLS. It is featured in this month's Nighwalkers and I believe Rustsmith posted on it a week or so ago. I joined and have had my initial interview. Sounds like they have had a good response, but more cannot hurt!
