Trazadone, Doxepin?

Primary doctor is recommending Trazadone or Doxepin on top of the Lyrica I am taking for PLMD. Lyrica 200 mg. working well on legs (has been working well even at much lower dosages) but not on onset and maintenance insomnia, plus the Lyrica causes daytime sedation so I am hoping I might successfully reduce the dose and have it still work on legs (not likely, but hope springs eternal).

I have tried both Doxepin and Trazadone before but from my notes I am not sure what is what because I was taking multiple things and also wasn't aware of many triggers at the time. So my question is whether these can exacerbate RLS/PLMD? I often have paradoxical reactions to drugs, and yes, I know we are all unique, but I still would appreciate any best guess scenarios.

Doxepin has strong antihistaminic effects, making it a poor choice. Trazodone has little to no antihistaminic effects so is a better choice.

Trazedone is talked about by people here off and on, but not often. I used it for help falling asleep - made me feel so drugged I couldn't even function. That wore off within a few days and within a week, it did nothing, so increased it. After three increases, I stopped using it. It didn't exacerbate the RLS.

My neurologist had me try trazedone before I was diagnosed with RLS (by a different neurologist). She prescribed it for my "insomnia" while ignoring the rest of my complaints. All that trazedone did was steal my coordination, which left me walking around the house bumping into walls as if I was drunk. It didn't help at all and I am probably very fortunate that I didn't fall and hurt myself during the short time that I was on it.

If you want something for insomnia while having RLS, you should look into cannabis.

As the others already have said: the suggested drugs are poor choices when you have RLS.

I've done a lot of cannabis for insomnia. Definitely works but causes daytime sedation for me unfortunately.
