Does Methylphenidate affect RLS symptoms?

Post by tomj83969 »

I have recently started taking small daily doses (5mg) of Methylphenidate to try to help with my ADHD issues. I would like to ask if anyone has experienced any RLS symptoms after taking Methylphenidate. Said another way, can Methylphenidate be a trigger for RLS issues?

Methylphenidate is not something that is generally recognized as an RLS trigger. In fact, there is the slightest bit of evidence that there may be a connection between ADHD and RLS. It is far, far too early to draw any conclusions on that, but IF there is some sort of connection, then treating ADHD could possibly help with RLS.

Methylphenidate improved my RLS symptoms.

Dexamphetamine initially improved my RLS symptoms but when the dose wore off, the symptoms came back much worse.

Maybe the same thing is happening with Methylphenidate?

Any drug that directly stimulates the dopaminergic pathways can potentially trigger RLS symptoms is my personal observation.
