Neupro OMG

Post by Stainless »

I saw #5 opinion Neurologist about severe RLS. He prescribed Neupro 4 mg. Then we had a long discussion about cost and why I did not believe another DA was the answer. After several days I called pharmacy to ask about prescription. Long story short $632 for 30 patches on Medicare with drug plan. I am willing to give it a try but need to find a better price. I see it in Canada it’s listed at for $500 for 84 patches.

Apparently imports from Canada for personal use are not a priority of Feds. Has anyone had good luck importing? Any suggested sources?

I expected neurologist to suggest Horizant but was caught off guard by Neupro. I have been very augmented by Requip ER. After 8 years I tried 1/8 mg Ropinirole that worked great for a month and then not at twice the dose. I think my receptors are tuned in. We did discuss this, he had great bedside manner and the wife was there so there was no getting out of agreeing.

Two suggestions, you might check the manufacturer's website to see if they still provide a coupon for new patients. You should also check GoodRx Prescription discounts.

As for the 4mg patch, I used that for a short time as I augmented on Neupro. 1) The patch is huge. I am very thin and could not find a spot to apply it, so I had to cut it in half. If you do that, be careful as you cannot get the med or the adhesive near your eyes. Applying two half-patches also mean that I was running out of application points after about 10 days. 2) The max dose of Neupro for RLS is supposed to be 3mg, but you are already beyond max dose on Requip, so that may play into your new doc's dosage thoughts.

Thx for the suggestions Rust. Neupro has a little test to see if you can get a discount. Pay as little as $10 a month it says. If you are on Medicare - No Discount.

Google says: About 61% of NEUPRO prescriptions cost patients between $0 and $100 a month; for the remaining 39% of prescriptions, the most common cost is $300 per month. GoodRx prices range from $786 - 756. This is all nuts.

In January for some reason the price goes down to about $425 on a basic Medicare Drug Plan. Don't know why, maybe legislation passed about drug costs. That also assumes you take the drug all year which I think is unlikely.

For right now I'm going get a written prescription, shop it around and learn about importing from Canada. What a world.

Hello

I just started with Neupro Patch 2mg 3wks ago. Suppose to go to 3mg. I am also on Methadone. At first I did experience some relief but last few days, RLS has been rough. I also in the last few days, lets say 5, dropped from 7.5 mg to 5 mg of Methadone.

I don't know if I am experiencing augmentation, that quick,? or experiencing an affect of dropping the small amount of Methadone.? I did experience augmentation before with Mirapex but my doctor, right or wrong, felt there was less augmentation when using the patch.

May I ask what was the short time you used the patch before you augmented ? Suppose to try 3mg of Neupro patch tonight and my concern will I just be making it worse. It was really bad this morning around 6 am and ended up taking 15 mg of oxycodone. Yup have severe RLS for 40 years now. Ugg!

I am from Canada, Quebec. Why do you have to import it ? My Doctor applied to Quebec Health insurance for it to be covered for me. It was. The first time for 30 patches the cost was around $39 and the second time for 30 it was no cost as I had reached my quota spend wise for the month. If I had not got it approved, or covered by Quebec Health insurance the cost would be $217.06

What Province do you live in ? You should be able to get it, covered or not.

Oops I misunderstand your comment, my bad. You were asking about importing from Canada so assume your from the US. That sucks how much you have to pay and now I feel guilty for being able to to get it for so much less.

Wish I could help you guys.

Carmax17, the problem works both ways. I have a friend in Canada whose doctor is limited in what she can provide as a GP when an RLS specialist with the level of expertise required for my friend's very severe RLS is not available in the region, even for simple things like getting an iron infusion. As a result, my friend comes to the US occasionally to get infusions and specialist advice that she can take back to her GP to utilize.

As for drug pricing, it will be interesting to see how things change in the US over the next year or so as more and more people follow Stainless's example and start buying from Canada by mail. Even our President has spoken about encouraging this to occur more often to try to drive prices down here in the US.
