Methadone

Dear Friends:

I was fearful of methadone, especially experiencing withdrawal if circumstances required. However, virtually all of the medications we are associated with such concerns. I had a very bad experience tapering off of Sinemet, requiring treatment at an urgent care. I am posting now because there may be some RLS sufferers who have the same hesitations re methadone. But, although I did experience some gastric side-effects for several days upon starting methadone, I am feeling better than I have in many, many years. My RLS was as severe as it gets- have worn out sheets due to continuous limb movement, and know well how RLS takes everything away, from the ability to think to even participating in a normal life. I hope that anyone who begins a course of Methadone does well. Thank you.

My nausea lasted a couple of months with Methadone, but then that was all. Glad it's working for you. I took it for 9 years. I've switched to buprenorphine because NM Dr's won't prescribe Methadone. I also found out this week that buprenorphine is better for older people, from my Doctor. I'm 72.

IzzyKoshi, just to say that Sinemet should never be given as a regular treatment for rls. It is best used for one-off use.

Re Sinemet:
Correct- inappropriate prescriptions of Sinemet with increasing doses resulted in augmentation- a completely avoidable outcome.
