Opioids/medical marijuana
Opioids/medical marijuana
Will my physician allow me to try medical marijuana while taking buphrenorphine 1mg? I am changing over to the V. A. after I retire and will be free of DOT urine testing and want to try medical marijuana. The VA Doctor I interviewed said he can not prescribe an opioid if THC is detected in my urine during initial or later screens. I know someone going to a pain clinic taking tramadol and medical marijuana. Their doctor doesn’t care. Is there a truth here? I’m afraid to explore further with my doctor in fear of spooking him. I live in Oklahoma. Paul R

Re: Opioids/medical marijuana
The problem involves the opinions of individual doctors and the clinic policies where they work. I have been taking methadone for six years and my doctor is aware of the fact that I occasionally use edible THC to help me sleep. But then, I live in Colorado and my doctor works with a professor of pharmacy that is involved in marijuana research and is also extremely familiar with RLS, so my neurologist is getting better quality guidance than the average doctor who only hears the negative side of marijuana.
