Requip vs. Mirapex

Post by Jwarker »

I have had RLS since I was 26, I am now 44 and it was only March of 2000 that I realized I was not crazy. As I read though some of the posts and I now realize how lucky I was that my Doctor did realize what I had and did the proper tests. I remember when he asked me how often I am affected answering "not often only 4 to 5 nights a week". At that point he diagnosed me as severe and scripted me for Mirapex. Recently (the last 6 months or so) the Mirapex does not always work and I find myself in a steaming hot bath or shower at odd hours of the morning in an effort to force the cooling sensation on my legs. I have seen the ads for Requip and I would like an informed opinion from someone who has used both Mirapex and Requip as I would like to know if there would be any benefit to me changing my meds to Requip rather than increasing the dosage of Mirapex?

Hi, welcome to the board. Just as an FYI, there are probably more things about Mirapex and Requip in the Pharma section, so it might be worthwhile to read some of the posts there.

This seems like a good place to start:

This post has the best information I know of (in one place) about treating RLS and the drugs we take.

Hope these help some. I know it's not my personal experience, and that is what you were asking for, but it might help some.

Mirapex

I've been on Mirapex for almost five years now and it doesn't always work. There are many nights (like tonight) where I know I'll be up all night (literally) without any sleep. Has anyone found Requip to work better than Mirapex? I'm a 44/yo male who's had RLS since college - although my Doctor is certain that I've had it much longer.
