The pain in my legs was starting a few hours after taking a dose of the medication & would last well into the next day, usually until at least noon.

I've since quit taking the medication, because the pain really was awful. And have been lucky enough to have had a couple good nights sleep since off of it.

Good to hear the pain is gone.

Hey all, it's been a while since I posted. I had severe leg pain with Mirapex, but didn't associate it with it until I got off of it. The pain came back when I started Neupro. I stopped Neupro over 8? months ago, and the pain is still here. I'm on Oxycontin 24/7 now. It used to help with the pain at first, but now it doesn't. It keeps the day and night time RLS away, so that is a plus. The only problem I have is I don't have insurance, and the script is around $400 US a mo. Due to the pain, I've had to quit working and I'm trying to get some school in to change careers to one that doesn't involve any standing.
If you are having pain due to the drug, I personally would advise getting off of it.
Here are some links:http://www.druglib.com/adverse-reactions_side-effects/mirapex/seriousness_hospitalization/ Search for "Pain in Extremity"
http://www.rxlist.com/mirapex-drug.htm Go to page 3, and the 4th chart. Pain in Extemity is way out ahead of the other side effects compared to the placebo.
I know this is not Ropinirole, but they are very similar.
The FDA has this report among others:
Requip Side Effects Report #5654953-4
REQUIP problem was reported by a Consumer or non-health professional from UNITED STATES on Sept 19, 2007. Female patient was diagnosed with parkinson's disease and was treated with REQUIP. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following problems/side effects: pain in extremity. REQUIP dosage: 2MG THREE TIMES PER DAY. Patient recovered.

Good Luck, it's a messed up road to go down. I hope this helps.

$400/mo for Oxycontin ?

How many pills are you getting a month? Is there not a generic version available?

That price is way rediculous... Where are you buying them from?

CVS, no insurance. 40mg tabs, 60 tabs per mo. I guess I should shop around, huh? I have my pain specialist applying for the Perdue Paitent Assistance Program, but that probably won't cover the next script, due thursday. If you have any ideas, Zach, get back to me. I'm unemployed, uninsured and have a family of 4, 2 young kids included. (My wife is unemployed too)

Try looking at Walmart or hell even your local mom and pop pharmacy.. Just write down the dose you receive and the number of pills (or show them an empty bottle and ask how much that would be).

If nothing else, ask your doctor to consider switching you to methadone. And I know this is a sensitive subject with doctors, but start the conversation by telling him how much this is costing you (or reminding him) and ask if he would consider it, as you know many other RLS patients taking methadone.

I paid just shy of $15 today at my local pharmacy for #110 5mg methadone pills. I have no insurance. Hell $15 or $20 would get me quite a few Oxycodone when I used to receive prescriptions for it.. I know at once point I had a script for #320 5mg Oxycodone and it couldn't have been more than $30 - $50

Methadone is insanely cheap.. I don't know if it comes in pills above 5mg, but I know it should be able to match or beat Oxycontin at a lower dose based on the pain charts if I recall.. even 10mgs two or three times a day would be way cheaper than what you're paying now.

Thanks for the reply, Zach. None of the other opiods, including Ultram, have worked for me, so I am really scared that the Methadone won't work for me. It is a long titration period due to it's staying power, and I don't think I can take it. Last year was excruciating with trying all the different meds my PCP put me through. I'm getting good relief of the 24/7 RLS with what I have, but it doesn't help with the pain. I hope the OP comes back and sees the thread. It worries me that it MAY cause permanent pain.

Here's another link from the FDA with a Requip Information Insert: http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/SAFETY/2005/MAY_PI/Requip_PI.pdf
Look down to page 20, first paragraph, then scroll down to the chart.
Leg cramps and pain in extremities are now listed as side effects.

I'm not aware of any "official " requirement of a titration period with methadone, to be honest. And being that Oxycodone is pretty powerful stuff all by itself, I can tell you that start on 5 - 10mg of methadone a day to see how it does, is not going to be much of a risk to you.

I've personally jumped all over the board too, and even when I have skipped from Methadone all the way down to Hydrocodone for a week or so and then gone back to methadone, I had no real issues.

I understand that Oxycodone may cover your RLS but not your pain, because your pain has been caused by damage to your nerves and that is extremely painful and difficult to treat. My dad recently started taking Citalopram (anti depressant) for his diabetic neuropathy in his legs.

Have you been giving Neurontin to try yet? The Generic is Gabapentin. It is used like Lyrica ($$$) to treat nerve pain too.

In any case, of Oxycontin covers your RLS, I'm pretty sure methadone will too, and they are both long acting medications so there should be no difference except the massive price savings. Have you tried Morphine ER? That might be less money than the Oxycontin too..

If anything I hope you get accepted into the pharma company assistance program to help pay for your meds.

Also you could go to your local county human services.. If you have no or very little income you might be able to see if they have any assistance programs that can help you pay for your medicine, or find a replacement like methadone or buprinorphine (Subutex) that might be available at low cost or free via voucher also.

I do 1200mg neurontin 3 times a day for different issues. It doesn't touch my RLS or pain. Yes, 1200mg 3 times a day. I am switching to 200mg a day of Lyrica. Lilly has me on their free drug program. Thanks for the answer.
