Horizant revisited

Post by CarolWR »

The last posting for Horizant was in October. Has anyone had new or additional experiences since then? I had high hopes for Horizant since I can't tolerate the dopamine agonists. After not using rls drugs for several years (and using lots of stretching, exercise, and my reliable heating pad) I was eager to try this new drug. After a month and a half, I've found that it eases my symptoms, enables me to sleep better and deeper, and I wake up one less time during the night needing to stretch. I do have a very mild vertigo on waking that lasts 5 minutes or so. I have had no nausea or fainting, which I experienced with Requip etc. I'll happily accept any relief from a drug, but I was hoping for more. The standard dose is a 600 mg. pill 1x/day, at dinner. I saw one post earlier that mentioned taking the drug 2x/day. That is not the recommended dosage, and from what I've read the studies show no extra relief from taking two pills over one. I've found that if I forget at dinner and take it later in the evening it doesn't work as well.

The recommended and approved dose is 600 mg a day, but dr Buchfuhrer, a well-known RLS specialist has mentioned that some patients need twice this dose.

There are quite a few posters on facebook who use it. A little harder to find if they're not recent.
