I was watching a show on how nitrous oxide came to be used as an anesthetic, and I was curious as to how nitrous oxide physically relieves pain.
Apparently it suppresses pain signals to the spinal cord, and triggers release of the body's natural opiods.
Obviously it wouldn't be good for long-term use, but I wonder if there is an application for treating RLS/WED, given that it works on pain the same way that opiods do.

Re: Nitrous Oxide
I'd try just about anything, within reason.

It's such a simple med. I assume the issue though isn't the medication itself but how to safely have it administered. You'd think they'd have it figgered out by now...

Oooo, I dislike that drug! Made me paranoid and freaked me out. Never went back to that dentist just because I was so miserable using the drug.
I know many people really like it.

Re: Nitrous Oxide
I have never used it, personally. Apparently it kills brain cells (literally, the neurons) with continuous use, but my curiosity is still piqued as to whether there might be an application for it.

Re: Nitrous Oxide
Definitely for short term anesthetic purposes ( laughing gas at the dentist). Life would probably be pretty interesting!! But I don't think it would be do good for long term use

I know the feeling! As a teenager I was given gas at the dentist and it made me sick. Threw up in the dentist's trash can, but not before biting him in my semi-conscious state. I came fully awake with him and the assistant standing out of arm's reach of me. Guess that showed him.
Re: Nitrous Oxide
haha Wayne - I can just imagine the scene, especially having just been at the dentist last week.
