Blood ferritin serum level documentation?

Post by cmooreinthepines »

Can anyone point me to a credible source, (that is in print or that I could print) that indicates the correct blood ferritin serum level for a person who has RLS/WED? I was just tested and my result was 60. From what I have read, this is okay. I am not seeing any where that the level should be at about 100 for persons with RLS/WED??? Perhaps I have over looked it or missed it. I have severe and currently uncontrolled RLS/WED and I am in between Drs. It would be good to have credible documentation.

These links may be of help but when it comes to the target for ferritin serum level I think the target has been discovered simply by folk's experience and finding out by experience, that at a level of around 100 there is a better chance of avoiding augmentation which can sometimes happen with the use of requip/mirapex.

Both say that low serum ferritin is associated with augmentation. I can't read the whole article to see if they recommend a minimum.

Dr Picchietti (has been on the RLS Foundation's medical advisory board) told me that verbally when we both spoke at and RLS Foundation event a few years ago. He used words something like "recent research shows" but he didn't name what research. I assumed that he didn't mean just that his patients responded better, but that there was actual research done related to it.
