only 90 day use of opoids

Post by Pairodocs »

I saw this notice on the RLS/WED email newsletter, that a group of pain specialist are trying to get FDA to limit opoid use for non-cancer to 90 days. Has there been a discussion on this? Does anyone know any more about i?

The idea puts me into a total panic as hydrocodone is the only option I've got. Requip gave me horrible muscle pain, gabapentin and Lyrica give me monumental migraines and Tramadol stopped working years ago. I realized that hydro worked after a surgery when it was the only thing I was on and I had no symptoms at all, with no side effects. I have to see my primary care doctor every 3 months per FDA regulations but I can afford that (I know other may not be able to). He is a geriatric specialist, so perhaps he is more willing to prescribe opoids for pain than family doctors. All studies have found that only 3% of those prescribed opoids for pain become addicted, but there are a lot of doctors out there that still don't realize that.

I definitely will write a letter to FDA and I hope others do too.

One of our members posted in another section about it. Like you, I'm in a panic about it! I've been through 15 or more medications. The idea that I wouldn't have methadone any longer and that there is nothing else out there for me? Terrifying!

Here is a link to some discussion about this. I get an email every Monday from Pain-Topics.com. This is a very useful mailing for anyone and everyone that pain is a constant in life:

http://updates.pain-topics.org/2012/08/ ... pioid.html

I have gained much knowledge from these emails. I am currently seeing a new pain doctor and I really need to educate this one. She actually toold me to move my legs so hard because I can cause cramps. I informed her that is what WED is and the moving is an UNCONTROLLABLE URGE. Actually needed to explain that several times. I truly believe she is one of the many MD's that thinks WED/RLS is nothing harmful. She is just going to need me to train her, I guess. Any these bulletins are very helpful when it comes to the general opiate therapy for the long haul. And of course here for the WED side of things.
