Hair Loss

Post by khorat »

I'm a 59 year old man. I started on Requip about six years ago (at age 53). Noticed gradually increasing hair loss after several years. (had a full head of thick hair when I started). Stopped Requip about a year ago due both to augmentation and hair loss and switched to Gabapentin 300 mg/day and Tramadol 100 mg/day. Hair loss consisted mostly in what's called telogen effluvium which is caused by stress (such as child birth) or from medications and is therefore generally self limiting. Hair loss decreased but not completely. Now I'm trying to wean myself of these medications as well. Has anyone else had experience with hair loss or telogen effluvium (shedding) following RLS medication. (I checked the FDA website of side effects and hair loss is listed as a possible but fairly rare (several percent) side effect of dopamine agonists and Gabapentin.)

I seem to remember someone posting about it sometime in the last few years. Many of our members come to discuss something bothering them, then leave when it is resolved. There is a search function - not sure if it will help you to see something a few years old, but it might.

Someone had alopecia but I just did a search and apparently it may not have been related to WED/RLS meds. I don't think she figured it out, but I didn't re-read it all- you could try the search function using alopecia as a keyword.
