menstruation and rls

Post by kanie »

Have any of the ladies out there noticed their RLS is worse around their monthly cycle? I have RLS almost everynight but it is worse a week before I start my period.

Absolutely, it's much worse. I try to take some iron tablets around then but hell it could just be the change in hormones.
Have you all noticed that most of the people on this board are females?
Do you think it's more common in women? Or we just visit forums more, haha.

Karin, it is slightly more common in women (hypothesized because of iron and/or hormone issues).

I don't think that is why that many more women post, though!

menstration and rls

Post by M0onDreamr »

Thank you for posting about this. I thought it was just my BC pills but that makes more sense. I just finished my cycle and the twitching isn't gone, but has subsided greatly. Does anyone know if there is a link between BC pills and rls?

Hi everyone :) I'm brand new to this board and organization, and this was the precise topic I was hoping to find. YES, my RLS is much, much worse the week before my period begins, plus I'm in the middle of perimenopause, which just makes it worse. Now I know I'm not crazy. lol I'm sorry you all experience worse symtoms during that time, too, but it does feel good knowing I'm not alone.

I'm right there with you, Stacia. Now when I'm found to be "missing" from bed at night my husband has to ask, "legs or just flashing?" My insomnia has quadupled, now sleeping about 2 hours most nights, and others sleeping an hour here, up 2-3 and sleeping another hour or so. Some days I find myself just going through the motions on automatic pilot!

That's when I love this board the most...when I realize there's really someone else out there, up and alive at these weird hours with me.

I can definitely understand that! That's one of the things I'm looking forward to - having others to talk to in the middle of the night who truly understand.
