Surgery and hormones and emotional disorders and RLS

Post by ViewsAskew »

I was reading Simone's post about going to have a hysterectomy and the posts about hormones and RLS, so I did a couple of searches (obviously too much time on my hands!). The following link is about RLS and spinal anaethesia. If you have had surgery or are planning on it, might want to check it out.

This post linked RLS to hormones:

http://www.sleepnet.com/rls3/messages/286.html

Also found this quote, "With each descending stage, awakening becomes more difficult. It is not known what governs NonREM sleep in the brain. A balance between certain hormones, particularly growth and stress hormones, may be important for deep sleep. " on this site http://www.reutershealth.com/wellconnected/doc95.html

And this quote, "Furthermore, insomnia itself may increase the activity of the hormones and pathways in the brain that can produce emotional problems. Even modest alterations in waking and sleeping patterns can have significant effects on a person's mood. Persistent insomnia may even predict the future development of emotional disorders in some cases." http://www.healthandage.com/Home/gm=6!gid6=9505

OK, I'm done for now. Off to cook dinner. That should give me something to do! Working at home and having 24/7 access to the computer is not always a good thing. . .

Hello, Ann:

Excellent observations. I have seen people with little or no sleep run the gamut from being irritable to psychosis.

They no longer do sleep therapy because it is too cruel!!! However, they are again using electroshock therapy where they "fry" your brain three times a week and have to dope you so your convulsions do not throw you off the table. But that is not cruel!!! Go figure!

They do not even know what damage the strong current does to the brain. But afterwards people become more docile....! It reminds me of lobotomy, sorry.

Anyone who knows about these drastic measures, please comment. Treatment usually start with lithium...!

BECAT please e-mail me if you read this. It has nothing to do with the content of this letter. She and I are too normal if nothing else :) .

Hugs to all of you!

Jumpy, Becat is away for awhile (family emergency illness). She has been gone for a week or so and said she would not have access to a computer while she is gone.

Glad that things seem to be a little better by and by. Congrats on your publication!

Per the shock therapy, as I understand it, it's especially effective for depression in the edlerly. My grandmother had it and it was tremendously helpful - changed her outlook from wanting to die to a cheerful person again. This was five or six years ago and at the time they said they weren't sure how it worked. They use much less voltage than they used to; it's not like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest anymore.

Glad to hear from you!

You would not have an idea when she is coming back? It is urgent but would help if I know whether it is a month or another week.

Thanks for the info. It used to be 15,000 volts and tenths of amperes.
They still do not know what happens.

One has to be careful in handling health care professionals. They may not fight you fairly but the news spreads that he/she is a trouble maker, even hypomaniac!

XXXOOOXXX

I forgot how it goes, shame on me!
