to leaders

Post by doety »

I just typed in rlsfmods@aim.com. and I still find it could be confusing. You don't go straight to our website. It goes to Google with about four entries; if you go on the right one, then you'll get straightforward directions. Still! So many of the members of our support group are older and rarely use computers -- I just hate it that we make people jump through hoops. Do we really get spammed that much? I've only seen one website that's so much trouble to get to, and it involves women who have been abused.

I'm sure my complaining won't help and it's just one more thing I have no power over (taxes, politicians, etc. etc.). Maybe someday our site will be welcoming and easy to get to.

Doety, that's our email address. You email us there.

The problem is that I can't always tell a spam registration from a real one. If I delete a real one? That's bad! We spent a lot of time trying to tell them apart. We go viruses on our computers for following links. Mostly? We felt bad that we couldn't make a clear decision.

If I approve a spam one, they splatter us with porno, music links, etc. and then we get all of you yelling at us.

Not fun!

We fully realize it sux. We do - honestly. We know how hard it is.

Rubyslippers is doing everything she can to get the Foundation's approval to make changes. Until that happens, though, this is the best system we've come up with.

Doety, As Ann has said, rlsfmods@aim.com is an email address.

Anyone wishing to register should go to their personal email account and type in rlsfmods@aim.com as the address to which they wish to write to.
Type in the content of the email and click 'send'.

I have just done this as a test and it went directly to our email account for the discussion board exactly as it should.

As another test: I typed rlsfmods@aim.com into the top of my internet home page - the place where a web address should go, and indeed it brought up Google with various entries as you mentioned.

Remember - it is an email address to be sent from an email account.
It is not a web address.

I hope this clears it up.

Having said that - Yes, we do understand it is not all as straightforward as we would like it to be. But it is out of our hands.

You say it is one more thing you have no power over, alas, we have no power over it either so we do understand how you fee.

I need to apologize for having a fit. I'm already on, of course, but the leader of our support group is still reluctant. If I explain about just using it as an email, I think that should clear it up.
I REALLY DO APPRECIATE all the time and energy and efforts you all make on our behalf. I know it must be tiring and frustrating, especially saying the same things over and over, but you know you're doing the work of the angels.
I was talking to a clinical pharmacist the other day (while begging her please to okay a certain drug for me that's very expensive). We were talking about sleep deprivation and I told her that last year someone reminded me that it's a form of torture. She said that she understood that simply having RLS is a torture. She doesn;t have it, but I appreciated her empathy.

Doety: no apologies needed.
We all get frustrated and fed up, and I hate having to learn something new especially if it is anything to do with technology. (I'm 62).

The email is sent to our email address giving the information requested, i.e. a User Name, a Password, and the reason for wishing to join the Discussion Board (because of spammers). We do the registration and send an email back to person advising that they have been registered.

I wonder if this is why I am having such a hard time logging on. Some days I can log on and then some days I can't.

Laurachrissy: A few days ago (I think maybe last Friday 11th) we got a notification that your account was 'de-activated' and I did what was necessary to 're-activate' it.

This sometimes happens when a member goes into their profile to change their email address. We don't know why this occurs. On the other hand perhaps it was just a software hiccup.

While your account was 'deactivated' you would not have been able to log on.
