high feritin level

Post by New Girl »

Hi Everyone,

I am very new here. I just had a neuro appointment this week and was put on Mirapex. My doctor expected my ferritin levels to be low but when we got the lab reports back... they were very, very high. This I have learned is another problem altogether as iron is rust. There is something called hemochromatosis. This is when iron never leaves your body. Every bit of iron that you have ever taken in stays in the body affecting joints and organs. It's very serious and the treatment for it is bloodletting (donating blood once or twice a week for one to three years until iron levels are normalized) After the levels are brought down, bloodletting is done several times a year to keep it in check.

I am just wondering if anyone with RLS has ever had the problem of high levels of iron instead of low or normal levels?
