Who is your favorite doctor?
Susan, my doctor is David Thorson. He is with Family Health, I think that is what it is called now, it used to be MinnHealth. He is located on Banning. He's pretty full, but I have seen several of the other doctors there also and have been happy with them. He uses St. John's Hospital where I think he may also be Chief of Staff, or something where he gets a big piture on the wall.

I've heard and read good things about him. I've thought about trying that clinic because they actually advertise that they practice evidence based medicine. I'm going to have to do some background checking on him - I went to high school in St. Paul with some Thorsons, who also went to our church. Hmmm.

dr michael cohen, neurologist, garrisonville va. he is the only doc i have ever had that fully believes that restless leg is a true disease and treats me like any other sick patient and not some nut job who has an imaginary disease. i am so grateful for finding him.. he has been a Godsend! Virginia people he is your man! he treats me not under a sleep disorder but what goes with parkinsons and insurance does not make a fuss about it. think about that when u go to a dr and see if he/she will file it under parkinsons/neurological instead of sleep.

Ann...
I just read about your accident. I'm happy you didn't get hurt. It's dangerous out there.
Here's something weird...Tami and I were on our way to my first visit with Dr. Gary Marcotte, about 20 minutes away from his office, and guess what...I apparently blew through a stop sign I didn't see, T-boned an elderly woman who was crossing through, and totaled Tami's car and from the looks of that woman's...probably totaled hers too. Everybody's alright...Thank God, but what a day.
I don't remember not stopping, I don't even remember approaching the Intersection...I don't remember anything except seeing her car as I was plowing into it.
And what you said about being sore...I'm there. Tami and I were both so sore on the right side of our bodies we were moving all funky and everything. Tami had her seat belt on I didn't...my air bag blew her's didn't.
So, it's back to the drawing board as far as an appointment with Dr. Marcotte.
But here we both are, still kicking, (plus Tami plus that woman I hit) So we have to be thankful for that.

OMG! I am so glad you are all alright and that insurance is covering everything. I was just thinking about you earlier today and wondering how things went at the appointment.

I came across this today. It talks of a doctor in Georgia who is treating and studying several movement disorders, including RLS. I haven't a clue if he's a good doctor, but it sounds like he knows about RLS. So, if you are in Georgia and anywhere close to the MCG Movement Disorders Program in Augusta, he might be a good starting point.

I have been seeing Dr. Arthur Walters here in Edison, New Jersey. Unfortunately, for me, he has just moved to Tennessee (July, 2008). He is a neurologist who specializes in sleep disorders, but most particularly in RLS. He has published widely and does lots of research. Even better, though, he is a great listener and has all the info he needs at his fingertips. I wish him well, and if you can make an appointment with him, you won't be disappointed. Happy snoozing!

He seems like he'd be a great doc. He's certainly an RLS champion. So sorry you've lost him. I hope those people in Tennessee take advantage of him.

WED/RLS Recommended doctors
This thread is not for discussion, only for listing the names and locations of doctors whom we (the patients) have found to be good in treating our RLS/WED. The purpose of the thread is to help people find a doctor near them. Any of us can add a name, either of a doctor we have personal experience with, or of a doctor that someone else mentions in another thread (or even on another discussion board). Just be sure to provide the date of the original post, name of the poster, and preferably a link to the thread as well. And if we all stick to the same format, it will be easier to use.
The Foundation maintains a list of WED doctors, but since it relies on doctors to submit their own information, a lot of good doctors get missed, and doctors who have moved on often forget to update the Foundation as to their whereabouts.
Each post should be in this format:
WED Doctor's name - Location (City-State-Country) - Date Recommended - Recommended by - Misc other info (eg. phone number or clinic address or link to original thread discussing that doctor)
I will start with a few recent recommendations. We (moderators) will add comments here as necessary, and we welcome suggestions about this thread, but please place them in another thread or a pm to one of us. (We will have to delete or move material from this thread that obscures its purpose.)
