Great Article on the Likely Cause of Addiction

Post by jul2873 »

It's in Huff Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/johann-ha ... 6936.htmlg

Here's the short version: Lots of evidence emerging that isolation and depression causes addiction, rather than chemicals that are turned on in the brain. When addicts are put into supportive, loving environments, the addictive behavior tends to drop off. If this is true, than withholding pain medication from people who really need it is the worst thing you can do as far as keeping them from addiction.

Thanks for sharing. Reminds me a bit of a theory by a doctor whose name I don't remember - he wrote The Craving Brain. In his review of addictions and treatments, he believed that the reason places like AA work is because of the nurturing and relationships you build and how they support healthy brain chemistry.
