Longtime Sufferer of RLS

Post by Trish »

Hi. I'm new to the group but definately not new to RLS. I have suffered with it for 23 years. It developed during my first pregnancy. Of course the doctors at the time blamed it on 'stress' 'nerves' etc. lol....ya right. Anyway, it wasn't until 3 years later that I was referred to a sleep specialist and properly diagnosed and that made the world of difference. Although meds help I eventually build up a resistance to them and have to try something new. My RLS is severe and I suffer almost constantly throughout the day, my only break is when I take the meds and then they make me sleepy...so to sum it up...fellow sufferer here who knows how you all feel...oh and I also have Fibromyalgia but I guess that's a different site huh?

100 years from now it will not matter the car I drove, the house I lived in or the size of my bank account. All that will matter is that I was important in the life of a child...

Longtime to RLS Too

Post by kittykat »

Hi,
I'm new to the site too. I'm 59 and I've had RLS as long as I can remember. I'ts in my feet so I allways called it my nervous spells. I didn't realize untill a month ago when I looked at this site that I had RLS all these years. What a relief to finally have a name for it. When I would tell Drs about my nervous spells they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. I'm up half the night with my feet and so far nothing helps. Ativan used to help years ago but it doesn't anymore. I'm going to tell my Dr when I go back on the 17th, but he never gives me anything I ask for.
He acts like I'm not telling the truth. Hes at a free Indian clinc so I can't choose which Dr I see. I can't seem to find a good Dr around here.
Well I'll shut up for now. Hope to hear from you again.

hello and Welcome

Hello and welcome to you both......Trish and KittyKat :)
I'm with ya, Trish. I'm a severe-24/7 RLSer ( as our friend the RLS Rebel calls it. Prayers and good thoughts for her today) for the last solid 10 yrs. I don't have fibro Thank God, that has to make it hard to get the meds right. Have you been 24/7 all that 23 yrs. or has it progressed to that?
Think mine went that way after an accident. Mine started very early in life and it was rough early on, but caught a break in my late teens and 20's.
KittyKat, I'm sorry to hear you can't choose a doc., I hate that. BUT, you can help to educate him if he's not up to speed.
Print out the RLS Algorthim. I'll add the link below. Take it with you and give him the copy to keep. It may help, who knows.

Also adding the link below to the thread it's in. Great information on this page for you and your doc..
