I was reading this today - and I haven't looked to see if it is truly based on research or just this scientist's hypothesis - but it made me wonder If introverts are more sensitive to dopamine, could this affect people with RLS in some way? And are we just a subset of the population and evenly mixes of introverts and extroverts, or are we more likely to be one or the other?

Introvert who can play an extrovert, but pays for it afterward - likely similar to you, Betty. Many people likely wouldn't know that I really need my "me" time and that the "we" time can wipe me out.

I think I'm borderline but closer to being an introvert.

Re: Wonder how many of us are introverts vs extroverts
I'm introverted but I love activity and I'm a bit of a danger freak. They're implying that introverts like to be still, that activity releases dopamine which is too much for us and so we don't like to be active. Bah. Unless I'm an extrovert posing as an introvert! But as a child I liked to read while other kids played outside, I was shy, etc. Introvert.
This seems like another case of drawing conclusions that are inappropriate because too many parts of the relevant system are being ignored. (for starters, activity increases levels of endogenous opiates too, not just dopamine)

No question that this particular article, as written, doesn't provide ANY proof for the hypotheses. And, like most things, my guess is that it just isn't as simple as Type A and Type B - some perfect dichotomy without variations. We might have some genetic disposition for one or the other, but other genes - such as risk taking - would add to that, creating a different profile.
That said, there have been (IIRC from my schoolwork) studies about how introverts and extroverts truly are different, using PET scans and other data. And, good studies. What I do not know is whether this article is based on any of them. I didn't check any of these (I can't see the whole study in most), but some include:
http://psycnet.apa.org/journals/epp/3/1/37/
http://link.springer.com/article/10.100 ... 742#page-1
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 3811736185
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 6997000275
And, this acticle links to many research articles: http://io9.com/the-science-behind-extro ... 1282059791 . Again, no idea if the research is rigorous.
These seem to demonstrate actual chemical differences when taken together - and makes for an interesting hypothesis.
