Canadian Specialist

Post by pamhb »

Hi -- I'm looking for a Canadian specialist in RLS -- any suggestions? I have gotten bogged down in the Saskatchewan health care system, shuttled from pillar to post, and am running out of hope and medications that will get my RLS back under control. I desperately need to see someone who knows what they're doing.....

Each healthcare system has its drawbacks...and this is one of the Canadian one!

There is a specialist who writes about and researches RLS (Montplaisir), but he is in Quebec. Beth, username badnights, is north of you in Northwest Territories - she has had luck and has a doctor who works with her. Unfortunately, I think she left this weekend to work in the field for 6 weeks and will not have access to the board to see your question. I seem to recall that she used to (or maybe still does?) see a doctor in Edmonton and she had luck with him.

You might try searching on Edmonton and see if any of her posts pop up with any details.

And, by the way, what a small world it is...I have a friend named Pam who looks quite a bit like you :-).

Thanks :) I did a search of some of the other posts, and did see that there is a Dr. Pawluk in Edmonton that seems to be working in the field. I understand that Montplaisir in Montreal has only one clinical day a week now, so is hard to get into see -- but Dr. Moldofsky of Toronto also received quite a few mentions.

What interests me is that there now seem to be more sleep specialists treating RLS now than neurologists -- which I think is a very good thing, since sleep architecture is a critical component to healthy sleep.

And I should probably update my picture -- that one is quite old now!

Yes! Dr Pawluk - that was his name. I hope you can get to see one of them.
