Waking abruptly vs gradually

Over the past few months I've noticed that when I wake up abruptly, for instance if a phone rings in the night or an alarm goes off, I have no RLS symptoms. Every time I wake up naturally (several times a night and in the morning), I have symptoms requiring me to get up and stretch and/or read for a while. I think my muscles don't like being at rest but the rest of me does.

It is almost always RLS symptoms that wake me up, unless I have an alarm set. So yes, I always have to get right up when the symptoms wake me up. When it's an alarm, I can lie in bed for a few minutes, until the RLS realizes I'm awake and comfortable, and starts up again.

I seem to experience as you do jul2873 - I do not really wake up naturally, but because the RLS awakened me :-(.
