Just saw primary on Tuesday. She is working on finding another doctor. The last one cancelled on me.

I'm pretty sure I know what is happening with me. I'm sure it is all coming from my back. I'm having pain in the lower back, probably sciatica. It's in my waist, hip area, going down into thigh and affecting knee as well. If I didn't know I had a knee replacement, I'd say I need one. I know my knee and hip are fine, they were just checked recently, which is routine. I can feel the thigh muscle twitching at times. I also know, from experience with my body, when there is inflammation, I have increased RLS and PLM's.
Just have to decide, if it's bad enough to keep seeing doctors. I've always been afraid my back would do this.

I doubt this is similar, but just in case...(and I have noted this before to others, so please ignore if you have already read it).

About ten years ago I thought I had sciatica. Then it went away. Came back, went away, etc. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized - for me - that I didn't have sciatica, but something called myofascial trigger points. I happen to have them all over, but many people have them in just one or a few places. They mimic all sorts of other issues - from migraines to frozen shoulder to, you guessed it, sciatica. Some estimates are that up to trigger points account for up to 70 percent of other diagnoses, not what they are diagnosed as. Even carpal tunnel can really be trigger points (happened to my nephew, go figure).

It took me years to figure it out - I hope that if I tell others about it that it will help the few that it applies to and they will not suffer as I did. I still get the pain - I just know what to do about it now. And, interestingly, it always made my RLS worse when the hip/buttock ones are bad. For me, any odd sensations - pain, itching, and so on - in my legs always makes my RLS worse. No idea why...

If it is sciatica, hope you can get treatment to help it.

Oh goodness, Deb, keep seeing a doctor. (Assuming they can find you one!) You seem to be tracking it down, whatever is causing this, I feel like saying "don't stop now'

Not a simple answer and not sure how you know for sure which you have - sciatica or trigger points. Here is the place I learned about them: https://www.painscience.com/tutorials/t ... points.php

You cannot read it all unless you pay - I copied it years ago, but he's changed it since then. I will see if I still have the copy, but you can get started there. There are a bunch of free tutorials and articles there, too. here is a link to a page on how to deal with hip pain: https://www.painscience.com/articles/sp ... medius.php.

I use a variety of tools to get the trigger points under control. I did a lot of reading about trigger points and ways to work on them - you can use your fingers, hard balls such as a softball, or specialized tools. I use all of these - but I have them all over my body.

So odd that just after you asked about this, my hips, buttocks and thighs were so painful from the trigger points that I couldn't sleep at all. It was AWFUL. I used the TENS unit (found settings online long ago for trigger points), used massage, and used pressure on them. I couldn't tell what was a trigger point from the referred pain. After five days, tonight it is much better.

You are *so* bleep'ing right about the muscle down time! I was amazed when I first tried norco how much it helped with my daytime pain, and I was only taking 5 mg before bed--well out of my system in the morning. I went from constant chronic pain to barely noticeable pain. Until I started to get the doggone tolerance effect.

Deb, you are absolutely in my thoughts. It sounds so awful. I hope you find something that works soon. I'm so glad you were able to get disability, too. I know you hate not working, but I can't imagine going through everything you are and still trying to work.

We have a Tens unit. I've used it before, but not lately.

I've had two weeks of no symptoms. Prior to this I had a week of pain. I still think my diet is helping, mainly no sugar and no artificial anything. Mainly protein, veggies and fruit.
Go figure.
