Good news/bad news

Post by Rubyslipper »

Good news: our daughter just called and she passed her vet test. So come the middle of May we will have a doctor in the house. An animal doctor, but a docter none the less. Am I bragging? You bet!!! She has worked so hard for this. She called as soon as she found out and I could hear her voice shaking over the phone. It was so good to hear her voice babbling on about it!

Bad news: I told you all about my dad's prostrat cancer. It seems to be at a stand=still which is great. But now we found out that he may have blocked arteries and has to go in for an angiogram on Wed. Not the best news.

Guess life just is a roller-coaster, isn't it?

Yeah, I know how hard she's been working for this. Yes brag away. Cool does this mean no more chickes? LOL

Oh Ruby, I'm so sorry to hear about the added problems. I hope the docs are filled with hope and giving you the same feeling. I know you have a special place in his heart, not only as a daughter, but a trusted friend. That is a great thing.

You know I will fill the moon with prayers and love for you and the family.

It's just been a run for you, I know, but I have faith that you'll let us know if we can help. Anything, anytime, anywhere.

My angel on earth, the giver of my own wings, I love you and just wanted you to know.

Love Lynne

Hi Ruby Slipper,

That is great news about your daughter! You have every right to be proud of her and her accomplishments. I'm sure she gets her extra smarts from her mom! It is a good feeling when our kids do good.

I was sorry to hear the news about your dad. My dad had cancer and also clogged arteries. They were able to do an angioplasty and it worked. I know they can also do a stint in the arteries. I pray one of these options will work for him.

You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Congrats Ruby! That's quite an accomplishment for your daughter. You must have raised her right. Sorry about your dad, though. It's so hard when parents have health issues.

Ruby, sad news about your dad... my brother had an angioplasty done several years ago, it was a great success.

Wonderful news for your, your daughter and the rest of the family. It's fabulous when our children do great.

Only thing I found, won't probably happen with your daughter's career, but my son is also a doctor, not a medical doctor, he is a research scientist, and his education took him far away, it was so specialist. Very mixed emotions on that one.

Education opens the doors to the rest of the world. You must be so proud.

Ruby...Man, I wish everyone had a Vet in the house. That's really good. Maybe she can get you some Catnip cheap. Bring it over.

And, don't worry about your Dad. Everyone is having angiograms these days. I even had an Angiogram a few months ago they got em down to nothing. You don't even need to go under, you're wide awake. You can watch that little camera on the big screen. It's gonna be ok for your Dad Ruby. Flying colors. Piece of cake. Pizza in a cup. ('member? "The Jerk"? )

Well, I'm going back to sleep now. I can't see the screen casue my glasses are in the other room. Seriously, two things. 1. Don't worry about your Dad it's an easy procedure. And if he has blockage, I don't think they even do bypass anymore, just a stint or something. and 2. Get us some catnip.

Nite.

Hey Ruby

Big congrats and hugs all round for your daughter!!! It's a long hard slog ... studying, prac, studying, exams, prac ... but it's worth it in the end!

Does she know which field she wants to specialise in? My cousin is a Vet and works for the Australian Quarantine Service. She initially thought that working in a vetinary practice would be great, until her first year out of uni and they had her doing the worst job in the world ... euthanasing (sp?) ... she hated it ... and I dont blame her. I think it takes a person of extremely tough spirit to be a vet in those circumstances. I'm not saying my cousin is weak in any respect, but the humble neighbourhood vet surgery turned out not to be her niche`.

My eldest stepdaughter, Karrissa wants to be a vet. She's got another 6 years of school left to go first, before she even gets to uni, so we'll just wait and see. If she still has the passion in another four years, then we'll start helping her persue it.

........................................................................................................

As for your dad, my dear, you know we are all praying for him and your family. Like Randy said, surgeries for these things today are like nothing compared to say even 20 years ago. So much technology, so much new research. I'll keep you and your dad in my prayers hoping that his cancer does not add to the current problems.

I lost my Grandfather to prostate cancer. We didn't even know until he was literally riddled with cancer; he just refused to tell anyone (you know the "put up and shut up" i was brought up with ... thats who it came from). I miss him so much every day.

A few months ago, when my dad had come down to go to the hospital with me about my hand, we were sitting in the waiting room happily discussing F1, MotoGP and the V8 series (as most Dad's and daughters do  ), when he suddenly said "oh, did your mother tell you that Bob has prostate cancer?" It was like hitting me with a sledgehammer. Bob and Linda are the neighbours who live over the back from my parents. They've known me since I was born. They were never able to have children themselves, so my sister and I kinda became their kids as well. Linda had a lung transplant back in 1989. She turned 60 last year ... and was quite proud that she'd managed to reach such a milestone. As for Bob, well luckily the cancer (i'm not sure if I shud say "was" or "is" here), anyway, it's early stage and he's run the full leg of the treatment and made it out the other end in one piece so far ... the doctors commented that because he's so fit (he's got a home gym in a big shed out the back of his house) it will make it easier for him to fight, so we've got all our fingers and toes crossed.

Well, as usual, i've rambled on ... Dee is right ... I should write a novel! Kidding! I've just never been able to express myself in a shorthand kinda way.

Anyway, my dear ... you, your dad, and your family are in line for some rather soggy (there's a huge thunderstorm raging right now  ) but well-meaning ((((((hugs))))))) and lots of positive thoughts.
Nadia

My philosophy is simply this: Life is too short to be diplomatic. Your friends should not care what you do, or say; and for those who are not your friends ... their loss!!!

I can imagine how hard it is to keep focused on positive thoughts about your dad with this latest news. Hope that there are treatments that will help.

I'm sure you had no doubt your daughter would pass...though if it were me taking the test, I'm sure I'd have been hysterical that I wouldn't! But mom's like you always know how wonderful their children are

As always, my friends here sustain me. Ann, you are right, I never had any doubt that she would pass. She is going into large animal practice; cows, horses etc. and whild some things can be pretty gross, she seems to handle it all very well. She did a lot of that sort of stuff here on the farm so she knows what to expect. Catnip? You got it, WAM. Is it used before the mile-long ride or after?

I really don't have many worries about Dad, it's just a tough time for him and Mom. Mys sister is a nurse and lives right behing them so she could keep an eye on them. But she has her own problems too. Anyway, I am the older sister and so I will take him to the doctors, hospital, stay with Mom and do all the things that need to be done. Not because it's what's expected but because I want to. I sounds like I'm just some wonderful daughter doesn't it? LOL But I was brought up to take care of your family. I've learned that through watching how my parents have taken care of their families. Taking in groceries, slipping a little money, taking them to doctors appt. Nothing ever said, just doing it because that's what family does.

That's why this family is so important to me. We take care of each other if only emotionally. "If only", that's a lot and I thank you all.

Ruby...what a crappy post I put up about your Daughter and your Dad.
I woke up in the middle of the night, sat down and saw that and just started typing stupid crap.
I didn't mean to sound like I did. It was dumb.

I'd be worried if it was my Dad. I know that much. It's hard watching them get older and older and trying to hang on to everything about them. I'm doing the same thing. Sheesh.

I'm sorry Ruby. I didn't mean to sound so...flippant or whatever.

It's great about your Daughter.
Congrats.

Take Care Ruby.

Hey Ruby

I am so proud of your daughter!!! I'm not one bit surprised, either... Please tell her how proud we are of her!!!

Now, on to your dad-- He'll be in my prayers (as will your mom, you and all of your family). It's so hard when our parents start having problems--I know. You take care, you know where we are........

Ruby don't you let WAM talk you into that mile ride......he'll be sure to have a camera. !!!! :D Catnip or not.

It is hard to see our parent age. I was so lucky and still am to have both mine. My beloved best friend and grandmother for 41 yrs of my life.

I guess I'm happy that your dad will go to the doctor, my mother has not been to one in 20yrs., and then have been times she most surely should have.

I have to agree with most though, in cancer they have come so far. The angiograms are better. Hubby has had two and it changed so much in the 5 yrs between. At least now they won't clamp your dads leg to the table for 7-8 hours, they can put a small plug in.

WAM, I doubt seriouly if Ruby took any offense to you post my brother. She knows your heart. :D

Ruby, you know that I love you and if you need anything you have it. Just done!

Hang in there, hugs to K. and E. and take a big for yourself.

Again, thanks for all the loving support. I am a little anxious about the whole thing but not really worried. WAM, there was absolutely nothing wrong with your post! You made me laugh and I needed that. Catnip! Do not apologize for what you wrote. I know you only meant the best and that's exactly how I took it. Thanks to you all and I will keep you posted.
