ANGRY

Post by Lewis21403 »

 I just spent an hour an a half in the car to sit int the office for 45 mn to see a certain Dr. I would love to name who(and I secretly timed it on my PDA)spent 14 minuets with me. This is my first initial visit with this so called Dr. 14 minuets of him telling me that all neuropathy is the same. You treat it all the same and you do not treat the pain with narcotics. I tried showing him the Mayo Algo. and he said he has read that but it's not a tell all or cure all. He wants me off T3's and on NeuRotten. I am sorry for thoes of you that are on that drug and it works. I am happy for you but I have had two close friends in the past get put on that for fibro and they went crazy and had to get off it. I told this Dr. that my symptoms are getting better. The pain could be looked at. Maybe raise the mg of the T3's and he said no way. That is doing nothing for me and he would go with Neurotten. Then he said if I knew what was best for me then I should go find some one that will agree with my choice in treating RLS with narcotics. God I am tired.....I made an appt. with a Dr. in Rochester and I will just ride this till I see him. I did tell the front desk that this guy was an a******(sorry for language) and he should not have an MD license. By the way she looked at me I could tell she agreed. Sorry for the rant. You all have a good day. I'm gonna go for a walk before it starts to snow...Lewis

Sorry you wasted your time with that prick, Lewis.

Just another vote in my mind, to consider starting a web site for RLS information, in particular a section that lists doctors by name and practice location, and how the regard official documentation from Mayo, etc.. With bad experience reports

I just know your appoitment at Mayo will be so much better.

In the mean time, I suggest you do not let this go, I mean emotionally just move past it and don't give the guy a second thought.. But doctors like this never change or "go away" if people do not complain to somebody.. Write a letter to, and also call your state medical board, to complain..

In your letter, outline his dismissal of your experience with T3 helping, and his disregard of the Mayo Algorithm backing up your claims, and also his apparent anti-opiate for anything stance and insistance that you stop taking opiates - also relate your ex's previous experience and the same "painkillers are bad and don't work for this" attitude that she experienced as well.

Pain is a seriously under treated condition in the USA, despite all the hype about prescription drug abuse, etc..

The only positive thing I could get out of your experience was at least he told you to find someone who agrees with you and didn't just call you a drug seeker.

Zach, I appreciate your support. I was getting the pen and pad out to write a letter and then I decided to let it roll. Sooner or later people like him will either have to realize that were not all seekers or go get a job at wal mart. Thanks again for your support...Take care lewis

Unfortunately, that rarely is the case.

I am a strong advocate for this because I believe it is the only way things will change.. The general population is pretty passive when it comes to doctors.. they stay with the same one or two doctors for years, and just believe everything they are told, unless they somehow find the drive to look things up for themselves because they can't stand their suffering anymore..

RLS patients in particular, are more than likely a small fraction of the patient pool that are likely to be more highly educated and an advocate for proper care.

We never really see stories on "bad doctors" unless its some BS about a plastic surgeon without a license or running their practice out of their basement, etc.. I have a very bad feeling, that the majority of people just roll over and go with whatever their doctors tell them, because they don't know of any other recourse.

Lewis, that really is just so wrong.

I mean, who do these people think they are? First of all, neuropathy and RLS are NOT related or the same in any way. And, to be so dismissive of other doctor's work....grrrrrrr.

You know, I'm all for sharing names of rotten doctors. I suppose it has to be done carefully so you don't get in trouble for slander. But why can't we say, "During my visit, the doctor spent only 14 minutes with me, appeared not to consider information written by other specialists, and refused to consider treatment that other specialists consider worth using." It's true! And it helps other people not see the same person - it's capitalism after all and if we can't tell other people about our experiences, how can we vote with our wallets?

I think it would be wonderful to name and shame such doctors. Also to name great doctors.

Here in N.I. we don't have any rls experts, but I can see how it would be of great advantage in somewhere lke the US.

I was up all night, I think because I was upset and my legs seemed to be more gross than usual and I was just wondering, can we videotape Dr. visits?? I suppose they would be on alert and watch what they say. In defense of the Dr. I saw yesterday, they do see alot of drug seekers but it's not like I was looking for a specific type and strength of drug....I was through this years ago with an old girl friend who developed MS. We saw many Dr.s and most of the time they had no idea what was happening..Hmmmm. I think I should stay away from women. One got MS the other got Fibro :D

I don't know the specific legalities of it, however if you ever seen those undercover tapings, like from the recent ACORN scandal, or when Hannity (can't really stand him personally) did a story on universal healthcare & wait times for "non emergencies" in Canada and the person going in video taped it, and they played it, etc..

Would suggest it is somehow legal, maybe in a certain way. I mean law enforcement does it all the time too.

Also, stress is sometimes a big trigger for my RLS (plus when I'm stressed I smoke more, another trigger, although my methadone does handle it rather well) which is why I say, write a letter and all that - but otherwise just let it go. Don't get stressed over it.

Well, at least he gave you one good piece of advice.

I think you should ck what is legal in your state. I am pretty sure that each state has a different ruling about taping someone under cover. So make sure its legal before you do so.
