I tried my own version of your rice socks but it didn't work out too well. I made a pouch with quilt-like divisions in it (you'd mentioned on the other forum that you wish you'd done that to stop the rice from concentrating in one area). I intended the 'quilted' rice pouch to go under a big wooly sock, but it was too big to fit under. It still works; I nuke it, then hold it on to my ankle/foot/lower leg with a neoprene knee-wrap thing I have that closes with velcro. Too bulky but the heat is delicious.

Maybe you're wrapping your tensor (Ace) bandages too tightly? Try making the first wraps looser than you'd like. I wear mine all night no problem (now that I wrap them looser).

glad to hear some people are getting results from the stockings. I have tried to get people to try it and report back here for some time. They MUST be the right size. You simply cant have a tight band squeezing your leg.
I like the full thigh high ones. reasonable priced from Ames Walker.
Once you find out that they seem to work, then work on getting a really correct size, even if it is a bunch of money.
any way..good luck

Hi everyone!
I went to a vascular surgeon and found out that my valves in both legs had gone bad.
He increased the pressure in my stockings and they really help me.
If the top is too tight go to the thigh high!
ANOTHER diagnosis!
We can't always assume everything that keeps us awake is from RLS.

1st time was really low oxygen during REm,I use oxygen at night now.

FYI
Finally able to sleep on average 9 hours a night!

Hi Brenda: I am going to get fitted for custom made compression hose. I don't think I want thigh high, I want knee high. I have bought comp. hose from a medical supply. But my legs are so short and the hose don't fit right and will start rolling down. And it isn't good for them to cut off the circulation.....I know your legs feel good with them on......I can't wait to get them. Even though they are really expensive.

Hi Betty,

Even though i'm very tall the stockings can roll at the knees.
The trick i've used is to not pull them up so tight, I usually have the heal ofthe stockings under my arch.
Good luck to you!

Should I wear the stockings all day, all night, or both?

I'm not real sure, but I think you are supposed to put them on before you get out and bed. And I don't think You are supposed to wear them to sleep. Maybe someone else knows more.

your Dr should be able to tell you what applies to your case.
In my situation when I 1st began wearing them it was horrible, the leg twitches were in constant "combat" with the veins.
Over time I was able to wear them overnight. It takes getting used to. In my case after awhile I would only put them on during the day.
Thats my routine now. What a difference!

I wear compression stockings every night. I love them. They feel so secure on my creepy ankles. (if you know what I mean)

I started with the lowest compression rating (I think 18 mgHg?). If you start too high it can cause pain.

My vein specialist made me increase my compression to 20-30.
I am now stable with the pain and can take them off at night.

When the warm weather came I took off my compression stockings. At first I was happy to have them off as I was able to go barefoot at a moments notice. I noticed my RLS getting worse, first just at night then during the day. I didn't make the connection between the socks and the increased RLS at first. DUH! Then, we had a few cold days and I started to wear my socks again. I made it through the night without RLS. A week later of wearing the socks my RLS is back to being manageable with minimum meds.

bekull,
I've noticed the same thing. Its alot harder during the warm weather to wear the stockings but worth a good nights sleep.

My sleep is down right now.
My sweet husband passed away 2 weeks ago. It was sudden and I found him. So sad lately. They have me sedated for awhile but sleep still comes in small quantities.

Brenda, I am sorry your husband is no longer with you and think of you at this very sad time.
