MIRAPEX LAWSUIT

Post by Janet Risi »

I'm back with some info on the lawsuit against mirapex. They say that it causes compulsive behavior such as excessive gambling, eating, shopping, sexual, and many other ones. One man lost 100,000.00 gambling. Before mirapex he was happy spending $10-$40 on a visit but once he started on mirapex he couldnt stop gambling. I also have a gambling problem and if I look back it started after is started using mirapex. I never thought about gambling before. We would go to Vegas once a year and I never spent what I do now and I was happy to walk around looking at sights, etc. Now all I care to do is play the slots. I've even drove to the casino with $5.00 to spend. Now that pretty bad, right?

addiction and mirapex

Post by Trish »

Okay please don't laugh, but I think mirapex has seriously increased my sex drive...maybe it's coincidence and not something I really want to discuss with my young female doctor...what do you think?
Trish
100 years from now it will not matter the car I drove, the house I lived in or the size of my bank account. All that will matter is that I was important in the life of a child...

Trish, we've had this dicussion 8) - not sure where but maybe in general topics. Yoy might be able to find it if you search on sex and mirapex. It's not your imagination from what others have said. Wasn't the case for me, but it and I didn't agree on most things, sex included  .

Mirapex

Post by Janet Risi »

I'm still using mirapex because all the other medicines I've tried have only worked for awhile and most didn't work at all on my RLS. My daughter had a iron tranfusion done (it takes about 6-7 hours in the hospital) but since she had this done she has not had any RLS. The fusion was done almost 8 months ago. The problem I have is that this RLS has run in my family. My grandmother on my dad's side had it, my mother, 3 sisters, 2 of my daughters, one son, and now my grandaughter has RLS.

Before mirapex I was taking Permax and now I find there's a lawsuit on this pill. I really know how to pick them.

I have a friend in NY that is a lawyer and he talked with the lawyer from California that is handling the mirapex lawsuit and he said it is on the up and up.

If you need more info on the lawsuit, go on line to "Mirapex Lawsuit" and you'll get all the info you need. Good luck.

Had anyone noticed that when you eat sugar that the RLS starts?

Sugar

Post by Heronak »

Janet,

Yes, sugar is a trigger for many people, me included. Ice cream & chocolate in particular make for some bad times.

Regarding Mirapex, I've been using it for well over a year now, lowest dose, and have had no related compulsive behaviours, thankfully. Hope you find relief without sacrificing too much! Best,

Heron

MIRAPEX FOR RESTLESS LEGS

Post by Janet Risi »

Hi Heron,

I have been on mirapex for 6 years and take 6-8 pills per day. My RLS is real bad, I have it all day long. The only thing I've taken that helps is Mirapex and if they take it off the shelves, I'm sunk. I don't know what else to use. I guess I'll have a iron fusion and see if that does it. Believe me the large dose does cause compulsive behavior...I never cared to gamble and we went to Vegas for 10 years straight and I was happy just walking around and gambling at night. We always stayed 3 days and I was glad to leave the 3rd. day. Now if I have $5.00 I'll go to the casino here that is over 45 miles away. If I win, I'll stay until I lose it all. I've gone thru thousands. It's terrible. I think about it all the time. That's why I have to get off this stuff somehow. I tried to cut down and I now take 4 a day. If the legs start between pills I try walking around to get rid of them, sometimes it does work.

Janet, I was going to PM you, then decided that other people might want to read this, too. I also want to first say that this is an extreme case; most people taking Mirapex do not have these problems.

For some people, and more likely for those who have been on it for 2 years or longer, Mirapex can be devilishly hard to stop. I tried at least 4 or 5 other drugs when trying to get off of Mirapex and none of them worked!!!! I was so depressed, because I was experiencing too many unacceptable side effects and wanted to stop it desperately. I was very cranky and really didn't know what to do.

Corrie mentioned in a post that it could be hard to stop, but that didn't fully register to me when I was trying. Each time I would get it down to a very low dose, while increasing the new medication. When I stopped it completely, I would get the strongest continual RLS I'd ever had - it would not stop at all for day or night and I wouldn't get any sleep at all. It scared me to have RLS this strong for days at a time, expecially when the medications seemed not to help at all. It also scared me to think I might be stuck with this level of RLS for the rest of my life.

Then I read something that said Mirapex often causes RLS intensify and worsen for 3-7 days after you stop taking it. It finally made sense to me. Each time I stopped taking it, the other meds couldn't work because of this escalation in symptoms. If I had stayed on them over a week, they probably would have worked.

I had to use methadone to get me through week-long period. It allowed me to sleep at least 3-4 hours a night for the first week, something that I'd been unable to do the previous times. By the eighth day, I wasn't have RLS during the day at all and was sleeping through the night for the first time in over a year.

MIRAPEX FOR RESTLESS LEGS

Post by jancarm@voyager.net »

Ann,

I take 0.25 mg 4-5 times a day of Mirapex. I have been on Permax, and various other pills for RLS. Permax worked for a couple of years and then I think I became immune to it so the doctor put me on Mirapex. I still get RLS very bad some days. I haven't had 8 hours of sleep for over 40 years. I'm 71 and I have had RLS since I was 21. I have had it so bad that I've walked 12-14 hours trying to get it to go away. Sometimes it is so bad that you want to cry. I have been to many doctors about it. I went to U of Michigan and they said that they recommend Mirapex to their patients.

I have lukemia and I went to Mayo Clinic last month for second opinion. I had to list what medication I was on and I listed Mirapex and the dosage. Now Mayo is involved in the lawsuit over Mirapex and they do believe it causes obsessive behavior, but they saw it on my paperwork but never told me anything about getting off it or the lawsuit. My dtr. in Michigan called me and told me it was in the Detroit Free Press that it caused Excessive gambling, shopping, sex, and other behaviors. I just laughed until I went on the internet and boy it has effected many hundreds of people.

I'm on Mirapex, along with other meds

Post by sacdp29 »

I've had RLS for years but just recently was put on Mirapex. It does help, most of the time. My father has it, my sister also suffers with it.
Some nights I just want to scream. I'm a 46 year old female. I also have fibromayalgia, arthritis, bipolar. I'm on alot of different meds for pain, depression, etc.
I'm sitting at my computer right now with my legs driving me crazy. Its 2:45 am and I really would like to go to bed.
All this talk about lawsuits, etc. worry me, should I try to get off Mirapex. It helps if I take it early in evening before bedtime.

Mirapex is great for me, but I see things. I don't admit it to my doctor. It helps a lot, I don't want to give it up. I'll live with all the little black lizards and bugs that I see, even the big black dog I saw in my kitchen.

I don't know why, but everything I see that is not there is always black.

Mirapex

Post by vi0613 »

:D Hi everyone, I have been on Mirapex for about 2 yrs. now, and it works for me with no side effects., no compulsive behavior, I mean. I do get the palpitations though, and rapid heartbeat sometimes, --scary!  If I forget to take it, I suffer until it kicks in. I take 1 pill {0.25 mg. per day} Sometimes I have to take 2, but no more than that. I didn't know about the lawsuits until I read it here. Why is the chat room always empty? I would love to converse with friends who have RLS. :?: :?:

mirapex lawsuit

Post by jen »

I'm sorry, but I don't believe this drug causes people to be compulsive gamblers. If you are gambling before the drug, isn't that compulsive behavior, I just believe people can't take responsibility for their own actions and need to blame others. This world is so lawsuit happy! Jeesh!

ReQuip Anyone?

Post by pam135 »

Is anyone out there that is taking ReQuip? If so, how is it working for you? Any side effects? I am having a hard time falling asleep. Usually, I am in bed at 9:00 or 10:00 since I have to get up at 4:00a. for work. But, now I am not going to bed until 12:45a. one night and 11:30 the next night.
Also, some of you have mention back pain related to RLS. Please explain what this means? I have had a tethered spinal cord released in 1997 could this be caused from the back surgery or back injury. I am new to all of this information concerning RLS! I have had it for many years at least 4 years that I know of.
I am still having a hard time falling asleep!
