For years, I alternated back and forth as you described, taking one, then the other. But, at some point after an infusion, I played with taking them together. It worked much better. I find that I need less of either single drug when I take them in combination. I need around .50 pramipexole when I take it alone. I need around 30 mg methadone when I take it alone (this is all with low ferritin - this decreases after an infusion). Yet, when I take them together, I need around 7.5 to 10 mg methadone a .125 of pramipexole. Sometimes I would need another 2.5 to 5 mg methadone, but it's still only a 1/4 of the pramipexole.

I find that methadone doesn't help much for pain, unfortunately.

Took .125 pramipexole last night about three hours before bedtime. I took 2.5mg oxycodone at bedtime (just to stave off any withdrawal - I've noticed if I skip a dose I have non-stop sneezing attacks and a bit of anxiety and figure since I've mostly been on it for years now at varying doses my body is dependent) and .5mg clonazepam plus my 25mg trazadone (to keep the PBA at bay) and I slept for nine hours! No RLS last night or today!

So, I'm thinking "Yay! I can alternate the oxycodone and the pramipexole." I took .125 pramipexole about three hours ago and the RLS just kicked in - big time. Rats!

You might see me later...

Did you take the oxy tonight too? Or were you hoping to do without it completely?

I hadn't yet taken the oxycodone when the RLS kicked in. But, I'd taken my usual early evening dose, which should have still been working. I ended up needing a full 10mg (took 5mg, waited half an hour and, when the bugs didn't get any gentler, I took the other half) to avoid chopping my legs off. I slept about three hours on a cocktail of 1.5mg clonazepam and 10mg baclofen (plus my trazadone) - from 3ish (just missed you) until the RLS woke me at 6ish. Sigh. Waiting for 5mg oxy to kick in right now so I can try to get a little more sleep because I'm totally hung over - and sad from too much clonazepam although I did dream about David Tennant so it's not all bad.

I had a bizarre night last night too. I didn't sleep a wink until it was almost time to get up. I didn't have symptoms for most of it, and I could lie fairly calmly in a state that was on the verge of sleep, but never really slept, until about 2 hours before I had to get up. I got about an hour of sleep, but then I started to wake up and look at the clock every few minutes. I finally gave up and got up. I had a meaningless stupid day of uselessness as a consequence.

I suppose it was partly because I cut back to half a pill from a whole pill of 7.5 mg zopiclone last night (I only took a full pill for a week or two, though), and partly one of those seemingly random fluctuations (like you had, Madmom), plus I had an obligation to be up at a certain time. The perfect storm, I guess.

Every night is like that for me at the moment. I have practically no symptoms for the first part of the night but lie wide awake listening to audiobooks and doing puzzles (which used to be a surefire way for me to get to sleep). About 3.30 to 4.00 pm I might drift off briefly but mild symptoms start then and I wake up again until nearly 6.00 am when I finally go into a good sleep. If I don't have anything on during the day I will stay asleep until nearly 12pm. I actually quite enjoy being awake in the night but it is so depressing to be exhausted all day. I have increased my dose of Lyrica to 125mg to try and overcome it but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Don't want to go any higher because a higher dose made me miserable previously. Have also reduced OxyContin to 5mg as symptoms so mild so I don't think it is opiate alerting. I am taking red vein borneo kratom but the wakefulness predated that. The only thing that has worked for getting me to sleep is marijuana but I haven't been able to get any of that for 6 weeks or so. Spent the day researching how to grow it at home with a view to securing a steady supply - albeit at risk of prosecution. I am working up to ordering some seeds ...

My relaxis pad is on its way from California. Am hoping it might enable me to give up the last 5mg of Oxycontin. Excited to see how it will work.

sounds so much like me. That reminds me, I have a phone number for a supplier of relaxis pads in Canada. I tried to get an email address, but couldn't so I actually have to talk to someone - meaning I have to do it during business hours, when I'm usually sleeping or trying to catch up at work.

I wonder if I should try marijuana again. I know we can get "medical marijuana" but I don't know if there's much choice of strains.

You have been through a lot recently, Beth, and that might also be affecting your sleep. If I had access to 'medical marijuana' I would give it a go, approaching with some caution if unsure of strain, given its capacity to induce/exacerbate depression if the THC is high and the CDB low.

I read recently about someone with rls insomnia who was using a supplement called Phosphatycil Serine. Apparently it damps down cortisol levels and can consequently aid sleep for people who have had disruptions to their circadian rythyms. I'm a sucker for this sort of psuedo science and of course one can always find a study on the web to back them up which I am too lazy to check thoroughly for authenticity as to genesis, size, proposition etc. However when I tracked down the Phosphatydil Serine in a health food shop it was €70 which was just too much for me to spend on the basis of a lone recommendation.

Hmm. I had my salivary cortisol levels tested at 5 times during the day, and it was pretty much non-existent most of the time. A small spike after my morning modafinil, then it sank back to almost zero. Tapped right out. So suppressing it would not have much effect in me, or perhaps would suck away what little energy I have.

Yes; it did occur to me that such energy as I manage to muster is probably founded on cortisol and I could be reduced to an inert torpor without it.

My relaxis pad has arrived (!!!). I will gloss over the devastating amount of import duty I unexpectedly had to pay. Now I have to find an overlapping time between here and CA to speak to their customer services about optimal usage. I will start a new thread once I have given it a few days to start revolutionizing my life ...

Legsbestill & Beth,
I've tried the Phosphatidylserine and it did improve my sleep but I stopped it because I was put on something else by my doctor and didn't go back. I was directed to take it at night, no later than 10pm with the idea that it doesn't remove cortisol but stops it from being produced and between 9-10 the cortisol can start producing. I was also told I could take another dose during the night. My urine test (Dutch test) showed the same as you Beth...a small uptick in the morning and then in the gutter the rest of the day. But I then had an uptick right before bed! ...I know we're supposed to honor our bodies and treat it like a temple and all but my body needs a serious talking to, or a time out in a corner, or detention. It needs to think about what it's doing to me and show some responsibility.

Is there any reason why you didn't go back to it, Yawny? You make it sound like it might be worth a go. My body is a temple into which I am currently introducing a packed congregation of medications. I am just hoping that they don't start disagreeing with each other. I do not have the equivalent of a powerful messiah figure to charge in and sort them out if they do.

I am relishing the image of your temple sitting on the stairs taking its time out and contemplating the consequences of its disruptive behaviour.

I am too tired tonight to start my post about Relaxis yet. I used it last night and it was interesting. It certainly made an impact. I will start writing about it more fully in the next day or two.
