Re: Another year of relief (Low-oxalate diet)

Wow, Deb! Thanks for making us aware of the benefits it has for you. I was motivated enough after reading your earlier post to re-print lists of low and high oxalate foods. But again, just like the other times I've thought I would try a low/no-oxylate diet, I changed my mind, thinking I can't avoid ...

Re: marijuana please?

debbluebird on this forum has recently had a spinal stimulator implanted - you could connect with her about it. I believe its primary purpose is to help Deb's RLS/WED, but she has other problems too. She could tell you how she got it, if her insurance paid for any of it, and what settings they've fo...

Re: A silent sufferer!

Yankiwi makes a good point. When we try to remove all our symptoms, they seem to get worse, just enough to make us need more meds; then if we again try to take enough meds to cover them, they get worse again. Whereas if we just tolerate some level of symptoms - mild evening symptoms maybe - the symp...

Re: A silent sufferer!

A sleep doctor finally recognised RLS for what it was and put me on Ropinirole 1 mg. Rls augmented in less than a year. We experimented with Ropinirole XT because RLS would set in by mid day. That didn't work too A year back I switched to Pramipex, first on .25 and now on .5 mg. It helps at night. ...

Re: After augmentation

And I am absolutely convinced that augmentation left me with long-term (perhaps not permanent) changes to my dopamine-handling systems. As in, my WED/RLS was worse than it had been. It was absolutely not true that my WED/RLS went back to pre-augmentation levels, like you can still read of in the lit...

Re: marijuana please?

The thought of going off Neupro, cold turkey or not, fills me with absolute panic after seeing what being slow to change a new one does to me. I can relate to that. My god, I feel awful for you. I know 2-3 hours in a car is a nightmare, but you desperately need a knowledgeable doctor. What happened...

Re: marijuana please?

At present I'm on a 4mg Neupro patch and 7.5mg of methadone/day. They're not working anymore. I can have RLS at any time of day or night No wonder you can have WED/RLS any time of day or night! 4mg Neupro is too high, you have probably augmented. More crazy than that, though, is the fact that 7.5 m...

Re: Melatonin added to the mix

Me too, it helps me fall asleep and Stay asleep. Not perfectly but it does. I had always understood that melatonin could aggravate symptoms (as per my previous) post. There is a paper in a book I have that discusses the coincidence of melatonin levels rising right around the same time that WED/RLS s...

Re: Exploding Head Syndrome Gaba Withdrawal

I learned about Exploding Head syndrome when I was looking up everything I could find about WED/RLS. But you're the first person I've "talked" to who has had it. You should realize that gabapentin is not the only medication that treats WED/RLS. There are many others (although none are totally effect...

Re: New Comer with 20 years of RLS

Thanks Beth for the feedback and tip. I tried it out couple of times, no movements in arms or legs at all. I will keep trying again though. The key to show that you have WED/RLS is if you simply can't lie still when the symptoms (pain, discomfort) are on you. WED/RLS movements are not involuntary -...

It's not necessary to reduce if it's not causing problems. It can be ok for years in some people - typically people whose iron status is better

Re: New Comer with 20 years of RLS

HI again mfh5 I also have to wonder about the diagnosis if you don't experience a strong urge to move. But it can be difficult to know what is a strong urge to move. Try this. In the evening when you're in bed and your symptoms are bad, set a timer for 3 minutes, or just place a clock where you can ...

Re: 16 years and finally a diagnosis

@mfh5 Hi and welcome. I can totally relate to feeling like a guinea pig for doctors! Sometimes we know better but have to suffer thru their experiments before they'll believe us. I again went to my sleep doc and he noticed that I have very large amount of leg movement during the sleep study, both RL...
