Seeing a Hemotologist

Here you can share your experiences with substances that are ingested, inhaled, or otherwise consumed for the purpose of relieving RLS, other than prescription medications. For example, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, diet, kratom, and marijuana (for now) should be discussed here. Tell others of successes, failures, side effects, and any known research on these substances. [Posts on these subjects created prior to 2009 are in the Physical Treatments forum.]

Important: Posts and information in this section are based on personal experiences and recommendations; they should not be considered a substitute for the advice of a healthcare provider.

Re: Seeing a Hemotologist

I had my 4th iron infusion today, and I feel great except for my left leg, that (during RLS time) is very painful. But only during regular RLS time (middle of night, early morning). Other than that it's fine. Since, except for the leg, I feel great, I started wondering if it could be a statin that I was put on a few weeks ago. I called my cardiologist's office, and was told to stop the statin for two weeks, and see what that did for the pain. So last night I didn't take the statin pill, and my left leg felt great--no more serious pain. So it's clear to me that statins can somewhat mimic RLS pain--at least when it strikes--but iron doesn't make it better

Luckily there is another med for cholesterol (Repatha) that is a shot you put under you skin. It is incredible expensive unless you have the right insurance. but we do.

And the hemotologist said that since my iron is getting so much better, pretty soon I can just take it every two months or so. I'm so relieved that he isn't doing the "one and done." Now if only he doesn't retire.

There was a post recently saying much the same thing. Talking about the side effect of a statin. Glad that not taking it gave you a better night.

I recently searched on statins here a few weeks ago as my husband has had more symptoms and some pain since starting a statin. There are a LOT of posts here about people who've stopped or switched to a different one because of this.
