New AASM Guidelines for treating RLS and PLMD

Here is a link to a new American Academy of Sleep Medicine for the treatment of RLS and PLMD. It specifically recommends against the use of all of the dopamine agonists and calls out recommendations for specific IV iron treatments.

Thanks Ann. I really like that paper. The one thing that I wish they had added to the part about Winkleman's regrets for his role in the use of pramipexole was that his "penance" has been to run the Foundation's "Opioid Registry" whose goal is to demonstrate the safety of using low dose opioids to treat RLS over the long haul (instead of the 12 week trial he did for pramipexole).

Now they need to start getting this info in front of the GPs that are prescribing the majority of the DAs for entry level RLS.

They really downplayed the whole opioid issue, I thought. But that's probably just my perspective, slanted as it is from my personal experience and this board.
