Here you can share your experiences with substances that are ingested, inhaled, or otherwise consumed for the purpose of relieving RLS, other than prescription medications. For example, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, diet, kratom, and marijuana (for now) should be discussed here. Tell others of successes, failures, side effects, and any known research on these substances. [Posts on these subjects created prior to 2009 are in the Physical Treatments forum.]

Seratame

Post by nylass »

I read an article that says seratame helps with restless legs. Has anyone tried seratame and if so, did it help or cause more problems?

I haven't tried Seratame, and so I googled it.
https://seratame.com/seratame/
The information about Dopamine, Iron, Magnesium,K2, vitamin D3 etc we are aware of. Many of us long term RLS sufferers will have tried (some of) the supplements mentioned. Sometimes with a little success, sometimes not. They give citations from well known RLS experts that we are very familiar with.

A reviewer mentions 'excellent results after 3 days of treatment'.
We are all very different and what works for one may not work for another.
At a modest cost for a one month supply you have nothing to lose by trying them.
However, I am always cynical about anything that claims to be wonderful.

I just wanted to add my Oncologist / Hematologist said he uses it for insomnia with very good results. Just a few sprigs in tea and he consumes what is left in the cup. He was very particular about what kind to buy and from who. He gets it at Costco and Red I think. I looked in the pantry and can't find it (have to ask the wife). I've used it dozens of times and it may help getting initial sleep ( the jury is still out ) but has done nothing for my RLS.

I'm sorry, my short term memory is going. I confused Seratame with Saffron. You might try Zaran brand Saffron I described above. Oops

Agree. However, battling inflammation takes time, and some of the ingredients (vit D3, curcumin) will show results only after months. Key is to avoid inflammatory food (there are different schools of thought on that, I'd say going keto or carnivore is the best way to do that) and then use supplements.

Just from the list of seratame ingredients (https://seratame.com/ingredients/) I'd say benefits will be placebo effect and I'm not a fan. The amount of ingredients is, IMO, almost homeopathically low:
  • A decent dose of vitD3 is 10.000IE/d, seratame contains 300 per serving.
  • A magnesium deficit can't be treated with just 120mg per day either.
  • I'm very critical on including vitamin B6 in the mix, as too much vitamin B6 can cause all kinds of neuropathic symptoms and B6 should only ever be given if there is a confirmed deficit, measured as intracellular B6. 2mg per serving isn't much and probably doesn't hurt, but if you are truly B6 deficient then you'll probably want to take 50-100mg/d as P5P (the activated form), and not Pyridoxine Hcl as in seratame.
  • No objections against that "proprietary blend", but I'm not aware of any studies confirming any effect on the ingredients.

Frunobulax...surfing through some older posting on here I read where you suffered through what sounded like DAWS after stopping Pramepexole...Its been approximately 1-year since I quit taking Pramepexole and I'm still suffering from DAWS. The symptoms started out very bad but have become less intense and not as frequent. I'm just wondering exactly how long it took for you to completely recover from the DAWS? I was taking 1-MG Pramepexole 2X daily, switched back to 4-mg Requip and tapered off that to 0.0...no medications now but can't seem to completely shake the DAWS...any information you can share in regards to DAWS??
