How can Mini Stroke change RLS.

Please share your experiences, successes, and failures in using non-drug therapies for RLS/WED (methods of relief that don't involve swallowing or injecting anything), including compression, heat, light, stretches, acupuncture, etc. Also under this heading, medical interventions that don't involve the administration of a medicine to the body (eg. varicose-vein operations, deep-brain stimulation). How can Mini Stroke change RLS.

Post by Stainless »

2 1/2 weeks ago I passed out in restaurant chair. Wife says I was not breathing and as I come to I hear a nurse who was there for dinner saying "I can't find a pulse". I stand up and feel 100%. EMS comes rushing in, we go out to porch and they do EKG, blood sugar, BP, cognitive test, etc, nothing found. I feel 100% so I decline transport to ER. We go home and stay up with friends for an hour, sleep like a baby. Legs and tinnitus as calm as I can remember for last 12 years. Call GP next morning but am told she retired, would I like to see PA. I said no because I see oncologist 2 days later with results of PET Scan (2 yr throat cancer surviver) with very current blood work including normal iron. He chews me out for not going to ER but finds nothing. Feel great for another day and then wake feeling head in the clouds, unsteady, body temp cold, very bad insomnia. This continues for about 2 weeks. Feeling bad I call GP again and find she has not actually retired yet. She spends lunch hour working me up. Another EKG, blood sugar, arranged brain MRI and more blood work. Nothing found.

I figured some kind of blood flow restriction. Hopefully not heart (I have never shown signs of cardio issues). PET Scan and Brain MRI rule out cancer per radiologist. He is the first to say it was probably a TIA transient ischemic attack (Mini Stroke). Makes total sense if you read on web. But that should have passed without further symptoms. 1 in 3 chance of it happening in next year. I see 2 neurologists (1 a Sleep Clinic doc referred by Mayo I had arranged long ago). Wear heart monitor 48 hours. Last few days of this I feel good enough to do chores like cleaning pool, vacuuming leaves, etc, but still not close to right. I have a cardiologist, more tests and repeat seeing neurologists and sleep study scheduled.

Then 3 nights ago I I sleep like a baby, wake once to pee & go back to sleep get 8+ hours and wake refreshed. Next 2 nights the same. Felt 90% those next days. Clear head, active, very manageable restless legs not impacting sleep. Just a little fatigued. Like the clock has been set back 12 years but was in much better physical shape then. Simply Amazing. Have ultrasound of corroded arteries tomorrow morning. I could easily do this the rest of my life like this after recent struggles with RLS.

Tried to keep this short. What a way to spend my 68th birthday. Thx for reading. Rick

The body truly is a fascinating thing.

First, Happy Birthday, Rick! Second, hope the tests show something eventually. And, third, how interesting that your sleep has been so good. I hope it lasts, truly I do. NO idea why...

That is definitely weird, but in a way, wonderful. At least, the end result seems to be wonderful. Take it and run with it!
