Melatonin added to the mix

Here you can share your experiences with substances that are ingested, inhaled, or otherwise consumed for the purpose of relieving RLS, other than prescription medications. For example, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, diet, kratom, and marijuana (for now) should be discussed here. Tell others of successes, failures, side effects, and any known research on these substances. [Posts on these subjects created prior to 2009 are in the Physical Treatments forum.]

Important: Posts and information in this section are based on personal experiences and recommendations; they should not be considered a substitute for the advice of a healthcare provider.

Because of what probably was a TIA Transient Ischemic Attack, I was assigned to a new neurologist. He is younger, seems very sharp and gives very blunt answers. I talked to him about becoming my RLS doctor and he seemed positive. I told him I had just seen a sleep doctor and was scheduled for a sleep study this week. He asked it I was doctor shopping. No, it took me years to find this guy and was scheduled long before the TIA. Long story short for now is he told me to take 5 mg Melatonin every night at the same time. Although this disagrees with my previous experience where it works for a short while then nothing, I am following his suggestion. RLS is still strong while sleeping but stabbing pain I've felt with for 5+ years is gone.Too early to tell especially after insomnia disappeared when my brain reset after TIA and before Melatonin. It's all so strange.

Wow. How long have you been taking the melatonin this time?

It's really weird how things affect everybody differently when it comes to RLS....Melatonin seemed to make my RLS symptoms worse, definitely didn't help with the RLS or PLMD...but hey, what makes me better might make you worse...I've had nothing but positive experiences with THC Gummies...really seems to help with all the symptoms////RLS///PLMD///DAWS/// now smoking marijuana seems to make the symptoms worse..really weird...

My experiences with THC and smoking and vaping marijuana were that sometimes it worked, and sometimes it made my symptoms worse. I spent some time, effort, and money trying to figure out if a particular strain of marijuana, a specific amount of CBD with the THC, or other nit-picky things could account for the difference, but in the end, I figured nothing out and stopped trying it.

Modafinil will never help the symptoms of WED/RLS, it will only help make you feel sleepy. So perhaps if your WED/RLS was uncontrolled, it made everything worse, because being sleepy while symptoms are going on is much worse than being alert at the time.

But it's also true that a medication that worked a certain way a year ago might work differently when you try it now.
