How fast does augmentation start?

Post by zombie76 »

I'm revisiting my long list of meds that have been unsuccessful in preparation for a visit on Friday to a new sleep specialist/neurologist.

I tried Mirapex and Requip several months ago and within a day or two my RLS pain was much worse than it has even been. I thought it was augmentation at the time, but reading suggests that it might have been a coincidence and that it generally takes longer to augment.

Has anyone had it happen almost overnight?

thanks

I don't know if it was augmentation or not. I augmented within a couple weeks of starting Requip, so it can happen quickly. One of the listed side effects of the DAs is leg pain, though.

I augmented to Mirapex within a week.

I augmented severely on Sinemet in one dose.

I augmented on Requip in two days.

Now, could be that once I'd augmented on Mirapex, I was going to augment no matter what, I don't know. But, given that I augmented on it within a week, I know it's possible to happen quickly.

The "average" is 12-18 months. But, as with any average, there is a curve of outliers - some that never augment and some that augment immediately. It's just that the 80% do it in the 12/18 month range.

I originally augmented on Sinemet within a week or so. Requip I never so much augmented as could not take it because of side effects and a 50/50 relief gamble.

I augmented on my first dose of Mirapex and that stayed with me for 24 hours.

Forgive my ignorance. I am new to this. What is "augmentation?

Sorry, I just googled the term and read the definition.

Thanks.
